Job description
Employees needed to perform the following type of work:
Clear seed beds and tables
Prepare greenhouse beds with soil and containers
Prepare for propagating trees
Remove plants of prior crop
Repetitive lifting of containerized soil mix
Repetitive bending over to install stakes and watering spitters in 5 gallon containers, tying trees, suckering, pruning, and lopping trees.
Filling 5 gallon containers with soil media
Repetitive lifting and placing containers in straight lines.
Repetitive lifting of 50 pound trees onto trucks and trailers at shoulder level
Nursery trench digging
Clearing of brush
Planting containerized trees into the ground.
Durling Nursery is a wholesale fruit tree nursery that grows containerized fruit trees including: citrus, avocados and deciduous fruit trees to landscapers and nursery retail locations. Containerized fruit trees are planted, grown and sold in small five gallon pots to large 48" boxed specimens.
Details of Nursery worker job duties are as described below:
Green House / Seed Beds
Clear seed beds and tables by hand, loading small containerized seedlings in crates into vehicle to move to another location on property. Clear seed beds by hand and using provided gloves and shovels. Prepare green house beds with soil and small containers.
Outdoor / Planting containerized Citrus, Avocado and fruit trees
Prepare field area by carrying or carting trees to select areas to clear area for more containerized trees. Raking and removing green waste and trimming in fields for replanting containerized trees in cleaned area.
Repetitive filling containers with soil media and place containers in straight rows for irrigation installation.
Shoveling soil media from piles from the ground into containers for planting and re-planting trees into larger containers.
Repetitive bending over to install support stakes/posts and attaching ties from planted trees to support stakes.
Install small irrigation poly hose to each tree for irrigation. Water plant material using hoses or irrigation lines; hand pulling of weeds from containerized specimens. Trench digging with shovels, and clearing brush.
