Job description
Field Workers (Irrigation and General Labor) to perform the following duties:
All work is performed in the field on the farm:
Irrigation: Furrow and sprinkler; Pipes to be picked up from fields as well as put down for planting. Setting up mainline and furrow pipe for irrigation. Building dams and checking field rows for completion of water. Checking sprinklers while water is on, replacing nozzles or repairing sprinkler if broken. Starting and stopping irrigation.
- Agricultural Equipment Operator: Driving field tractor with empty and full sprinkler trailers to and from sprinkler yards. Also driving tractor while in field either putting or picking up sprinklers.
- Ranch Maintenance: Hoeing fields, ditches, banks. Cleaning trash from ditches, sprinkler yards, roads. Cleaning pump houses (dusting, weeding, general housekeeping). Workers will be using a long-handled hoe for all weeding activities and less that 20 percent of the worker’s scheduled hours. Painting sprinkler trailers, pump houses, sprinkler motors. Cleaning shop which includes sweeping, organizing materials in shop, power washing shop area. Painting tractor wheels and tractors. Placing flags around valves for safety. Collecting broken sprinkler pipe from sprinkler yard for repair. Transferring sprinkler pipe from trailers to make full loads of pipe.
- Washing Ranch Vehicles: Using a power washer to clean ranch trucks, tractors, water truck, and farm equipment. Plus, cleaning the inside of ranch vehicles (wipe down seat, dashboard, vacuum).
- Harvest: Getting field ready for harvest; moving all irrigation, tracking field with tractor for harvest crew.
- Ditch work: Putting ditches up or down with tractor and grader.
Special Requirements
3 months of experience in Irrigation. Specific requirements include lifting up to 30-55 pounds frequently and able to use hand tools, including cutting knives. Must be able to work under conditions where skin and clothing become heavily soiled with mud, water, grease, etc. Must be able to work outdoors in inclement weather conditions, including rain, cold, high winds, etc. Work involves frequent bending and working in bent or stooped positions. Must be able to walk and stand up extensively. No smoking, alcohol, firearms in the field or residential housing.
Work is performed in open fields and may involve exposure to mud, dust, wind, heat, cold, and other natural elements. Temperatures can range from 30 degrees Fahrenheit to over 100 degrees Fahrenheit during the period of employment. Workers should come prepared with appropriate clothing and footwear for the environmental and working conditions described.
