Job description

Harvesting specifications can change from time to time during the season due to crop or market conditions, even on the same crop. Workers will be expected to conform to the specific instructions given for each days work. Work begins at an assigned time shortly after daylight. Work is performed during light rain and in high humidity and in temp ranging from 100 degrees to 35 degrees F. Workers will work on their feet in bent positions for long periods of time. Workers will lift for prolonged periods of time and must be physically fit and able to perform the duties as described. All the tasks in the Job Description constitute one (1) job; the employer may assign workers to different tasks on any day or to multiple tasks during the same day in the sole judgment of the employer.Workers may be required to preform work, on the farm, that is incidental to farming the crops listed in the application, such as performing hand cultivation tasks, weeding or hoeing, cleaning and repairing farm buildings, weed beds, rake grounds, operate tractor/farm equipment incidental to crops, clean fence rows and weed eating around barns and other out buildings, and fence rows, painting barns and fences, weeding, etc ... This is a very demanding and competitive business in which quality specifications must be rigorously adhered to. Sloppy work cannot and will not be tolerated.

Worker will chop weeds from between tobacco plants with a hoe. Worker will remove tops and suckers from plants.

Cutting Tobacco:cutting Tobacco:
Worker will cut ripe plants off at the ground using a tobacco knife and spear stalk over a metal spear onto a wooden stick (stick is 48" long and one end is stuck in the ground and the spear is placed on the other end). Industry standard is six (6) plants per stick (stick and plants may weigh up to 80 lbs. and tobacco may be 6 to 7 feet long). Worker will transfer the loaded stick from ground to wagon or trailer and load sticks on the wagon or trailer in an orderly fashion. Workers will be required to cut at least 60 sticks per hour after the 2 days training.
Housing Tobacco:
Workers will transfer stick from wagon or trailer to other workers standing on rails above in the tobacco barn. The workers standing on the rails will either hand tobacco between rails or transfer tobacco to workers standing on the rails above them. Rails are 48 inches apart and from 6 feet to 40 feet above the ground.

Special Requirements

The employer will train the workers for a period of two day after which the worker will be expected to work without constant
supervision.
Tools and Equipment:
The employer will furnish, without charge, all tools, supplies, and equipment required in the performance of the specified work.
Workers will be charged for any willful damage or loss of such tools and equipment.
Drug Testing
The employer reserves the right for probable cause to conduct random drug testing on any employee after being hired. If the
employee is positive for any drugs or refuses to take a drug test, the employee will be subject to dismissal. This testing will be at the
total expense of the employer
