Job description

In the fields workers will be hand harvesting a variety of produce that includes, squash, cantaloupes, watermelons, cucumber, tomatoes, and pumpkins. The workers will also be preparing the fields in the early season as well as planting the fields for later to harvest in the season.

JOB DESCRIPTION: vegetable crop care, plant management, hand weeding, thinning, cutting runners, cutting dead stems, cleaning old fruit or dead plant material, soil preparation, planting. Sort fruit according to size, color, shape and degree of maturity; keep count of harvested and loaded crops, ensuring accuracy of all counts, record keeping, overages, shortages, errors. May use handheld knife and/or cannery ring.

TOOLS: Any required tools, supplies, and equipment will be provided at no charge

HOURS VARY: M-F 7:00am - 3pm

PAY ASSURANCES: Employer offer the highest of the AEWR, the prevailing hourly wage or piece rate, the agreed-upon collective bargaining wage or the Federal or State minimum wage.

ADDITIONAL HOURS: Additional, non-compulsory work may be offered, including on holidays.

WORKERS COMPENSATION: Employer guarantees to maintain coverage throughout the entire contract period. Workers must notify immediate foreman and/or supervisor in case of injury within 30 days. Workers Compensation is free of charge to employee.

COVID: Employer will comply with the most restrictive Covid-19 regulations including local, state and federal guidelines. A CDC-approved COVID Vaccine is required for workers staying in employer-provided housing ONLY. Workers staying in close quarters are susceptible to cross-contamination risk.

HOUSING: Provided at no charge to worker. The housing comes with Free and convenient cooking facilities. enough for all workers. including washer and dryers.

MEALS: Workers will prepare their own meals. Employer will provide weekly runs to store each week.

TRANSPORTATION: Employer will provide transportation to all worksite locations. See attached job order for any/additional worksite location(s). Workers are not required to use employer-provided transportation. Employer is not liable for the welfare of any worker who chooses their own means of transportation. Transportation will be provided by the contractor from the housing to field worksites. All vehicles are compliant with local, state, and federal and MSPA requirements.

Special Requirements

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT: Must have 3 months experience working in crop(s) and/or agricultural activity identified in this job order.

ADDITIONAL CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: Workers are provided a two-day break-in period to acclimate to the demands of the job. Workers must be physically fit to perform job duties without succumbing to excessive exhaustion after break-in period. Workers will be provided safety training and will be expected to handle tools/equipment safely and carefully so as to avoid crop damage and to protect the worker from potential injury. Extensive pushing, pulling, walking, lifting, standing, stooping, Must tolerate extreme temperatures. Must report to work sober. May be subjected to and must pass post-employment, employer-paid drug test. Workers under the influence of drugs or alcohol pose a safety threat to themselves or others.
