Job description
GENERAL FARM LABOR:
Weeding/Pruning/Thinning: Worker will be required to hoe, pull weeds and conduct various pruning activities as directed by Supervisor. Worker will thin and trim plants as trained by Supervisor. Worker will be asked to top plants, which is cutting the top part of the plant off as instructed by Supervisor
Tying/Staking/Row Cover Installation and Removal: Worker will load, unload, set out and push wires into ground and then cover wires with plastic row cover, securing with shovelfuls of dirt. Worker will pull off row cover, load onto wagon, and throw into trash. Worker will pull out wires and load onto wagon. Worker will load, unload, set and pound stakes. Worker will tie tomato and other plants with string provided.
General Farm/Field Maintenance: Workers will conduct various field clean-up tasks which include picking up rocks, sticks, debris, garbage, and other items. Worker will sweep and perform general clean up tasks in and around farm property. Worker may power wash and sanitize tomato stakes, containers, and coolers. Worker will assemble cardboard bins used to harvest crops as instructed by Supervisor. Workers will load and unload containers/bins/product from wagons and vehicles to storage as directed by Supervisor.
Pay will be hourly.
Special Requirements
Job requires worker to complete tasks in planting, harvest and packing of broccoli, brussels sprouts, cauliflower, collard greens, corn varieties, eggplant, gourds, green beans, honey rock cantaloupe, honeydew, kale, oats, peppers, pickles, pumpkins, soybeans, squash, tomatoes, watermelon, wheat, and zucchini.
Experience Requirement: 3 months of commercial vegetable and/or fruit hand harvest required. Applicants must furnish job references from employers within the last 3 years establishing acceptable prior experience.
Season Commitment: Job offered requires worker be available for and worker agrees to work every day that work is available for entire employment period.
Worker must be able to perform job description duties in safe manner consistent with established safety procedures.
