Job description

Harvesting Broccoli and Cauliflower: Workers will walk behind field pack machine, bend to near ground level and cut broccoli/cauliflower with knife after determining the quality is acceptable. Broccoli/cauliflower is thrown up onto the field pack machine. Workers select heads, check quality, and bunch broccoli with a rubber band using a pneumatic bunching machine, or cut florets from stalk (loose florets only). Also, some broccoli/cauliflower packs require no bunching and are packed directly into cases. Some broccoli packs require bagging after cooling and repack into cases. Workers pack bunched or loose broccoli into cases. Workers stack boxes on pallets. Workers may be required to safely operate tractor powered field pack units and trailers in the field and between fields. (70%)

Field Work: Workers will pull or hoe weeds in vegetable fields, pick rocks and throw into carts, carry and connect irrigation pipe, operate tillage, bed shaping, planting and other agricultural equipment and perform any other duties that are associated with field work and vegetable production. (30%)

Production Standards (field work): After of completion of training or break-in period, employer will expect workers to perform tasks while remaining on their feet and bending to complete tasks with both hands. The crew chief will set a reasonable pace that workers are expected to meet.

Workers work as part of a team and are expected to be on time each day, every day so the entire crew can start on time. Tardiness and absenteeism will affect the productivity of other team members and will not be tolerated. Additionally, workers are expected to maintain the work rate or speed set by the Field Foreman and/or Crew Chief and maintained by the other workers.

Each crew will have an experienced supervisor/Crew Chief. The Crew Chief and Field Foreman will provide initial training, supervise workers in type and size of cuts and bunches to make, any quality related issues, and set a reasonable production pace or rate for the crew based on the Production Standard.
