Job description

Workers will perform assigned duties as instructed by their supervisor. Duties may vary from time to time. Must be able to work with minimum supervision. Clearing the ground of rocks sticks & roots by hand, clear brushes and trees with chain saw. Manually weeding fields by hand or using hand tools. Workers will be asked to operate tractors, lawn mowers, gator (side by side), prunes, pallet jack, weed eater, bedder, circular saw and planter. Workers may also use sprayer, drills, knifes, pakes, hoe, pliers Drain water from fields with hand tools and shovel when needed. May repair fences and farm buildings, may also participate in irrigation activities. Workers may be asked to mow, weed eating, and prune bushes and trees. Strawberries Fruit pickers will plant and harvest, tie up the fruits, sort and gather fruit with their hands. Gently remove fruit from branches and vines making sure not to damage fruit. Strawberries grow on low-lying plants, so you must have the endurance and strength to bend over for a long period of time. You will need to be kneeled for a long period of time collecting the strawberries. Once you have removed fruit from the plant you will need to place them in a bucket carefully so no injury may occur to them. Once the bucket is full, you will empty into crates and boxes. Fruit pickers must be detail-oriented, fast, and reliable so they can remove fruit without loss. Prune strawberry bushes by hand using pruning shears and loppers. Remove debris from fields using hoes, shovels, baskets, etc. Workers may also manually plant and harvest, tie up other fruits such as blackberries and blueberries. Manually plant, cultivate, harvest, count load tie up, drive and pull stakes, and unload vegetables produce, horticultural specialties and field crops (tomatoes, cantaloupe, watermelon pumpkin). Use hand tools such as shears and knives. Duties also include cleaning, loading, and unloading harvested products. Grade and sort products according to factors such as color, species, length, width, appearance, feel and quality to ensure correct processing and usage. Discard inferior / defective products estimate their weight, measure, weigh and count products and materials. CORN: Workers may be asked to assist with irrigation activities, prepare the ground to plant corn with a Corn planter and harvest. Duties may include tilling soil, applying fertilizers, transplanting, pulling weeds, raking, cleaning around shed area, thinning, or pruning crops, applying pesticides, cleaning, grading, and packing harvested product. Workers will also do staking, tying, loading, removing, and unloading of stakes. Workers may drive to/from fields and the supermarket. OFLC administration publishes new AEWR rates yearly and we reserve the right to adjust our job order to the new published rate regardless of rate increase or decrease. Raises and bonuses may be offered to any seasonal worker, at the employer’s discretion, based on individual factors including but not limited to performance, experience, adherence to work with rules and ability to follow supervisor’s instructions.

Special Requirements

Three months of experience operating tractors, manually planting and harvesting crops. Workers must be 18 years or older. If driving, a valid drivers license is required. Employer may conduct background checks on all new applicants. Workers should come prepared wearing appropriate clothing and footwear for the environmental and working conditions described. Cell phone can only be used during breaks, emergencies and to communicate with the supervisor. All tools, supplies and equipment will be provided at no cost to the workers. Lifting requirement is from 5 to 80 lbs. Most of the workday is spent outdoors and agricultural fields and it involves exposure to sun, wind, rain, soil, mud, dust, hear cold and other natural elements. Workers may stand in one place for long periods of time and must be able to climb, stand, sit, stoop, squat, kneel, crouch, bend (from the waist), push pull, reach and lift while performing their required job duties.
