Job description

Physical labor is needed for farm activities involved in greenhouse production, planting, growing, harvesting and other production of dark fired and/or air cured tobacco. Work in the fields can begin early in the morning when the leaves are wet with dew and the work will continue all day long even in weather conditions that can be as hot as over 100 degrees. Workers are required to be physically fit and able to perform the duties while standing, bending, stooping, walking and lifting 75 to 80 pound sticks of tobacco all day long and while standing on rails that can be as high as forty feet from the ground. In harvesting of dark tobacco each worker, per hour, is required to spike no less than an average of 150 sticks, pile 240 sticks, load 100 sticks on rails and strip 40 sticks. Each worker must be able to work as a group, keeping pace with other workers in the production of the tobacco. All the time care must be exercised to prevent bruising and breaking of the tobacco plants and leaves. Care must also be exercised in using the tobacco knife, spear and while climbing and standing on the rails that are as high as 40 feet. Workers will place wood slabs and saw dust in barns for the curing of the dark fired tobacco. P and F Tobacco is involved in the cutting, housing and stripping of tobacco and other work on his property in Logan County, Kentucky. P and F Tobacco will make daily individual work assignments, crew assignments and location of work as the needs of the operation dictate. All land is controlled by P and F Tobacco. Other work will be available during the slow part of the season which may include mowing the grass, weed eat around building and other repairs and maintenance of any property that is owned or leased by P and F Tobacco. P and F Tobacco or foreman will make daily individual work assignments, crew assignments and location of work as the needs of the operation dictate. Workers may be assigned a variety of duties in any given day and different task on different days only on land either owned or leased but controlled by P and F Tobacco. Steady and reliable attendance is a required must to each aspect of this job.
