Job description
Workers will perform assigned duties as instructed by their supervisor. Duties may vary from time to time. General field & fence maintenance: Workers will clear ground of rocks, sticks, and roots by hand and clear brush and trees with chain saw. Use wood to build and repair boxes for digger. Preparing the ground for planting and manually weeding fields by hand or using hand tools. Drain water from fields with hand tools & shovels when needed. Repair, maintain, & clean all hand tools & mechanical equipment prior to and after use. Workers must be able to work with minimum supervision. Sweet potato – Cut slips by hand with knife, load and unload boxes onto trucks and trailers. Walk behind potato trans planter and fill in slips by hand. Riding mechanical trans-planter and loading slips in planting cups. Divining plants by hand. Workers may drive in-field trucks and/or transport workers to fields and grocery store. Raises and bonuses may be offered to any seasonal worker, at the employer’s discretion, based on individual factors including but not limited to, performance, experience, number of hours worked in the season, number of seasons worked with the company, adherence to work rules & ability to follow supervisor instructions.
Special Requirements
Applicants must be 18 years old or older. Three months experience needed in hand cutting slips and walking behind and filling in slips and loading slips in mechanical trans planter. Valid drivers license required to drive vehicles. Workers will have a lifting requirement of 5-60 lbs. Employer may conduct a criminal background check on all new applicants at the employers expense. (All tools, supplies, and equipment will be provided at no cost to workers). *Safety training for use of mechanical transplanter will be provided. The ability of an employee to work safely will be left to the discretion of management. To ensure the safety of all employees, those doing certain jobs must be able to communicate with and adequately follow instructions given by management. Management reserves the right to restrict employees from operational duties who do not show proficiency to effectively communicate with management and may therefore place other employees safety at risk.
