Job description

Farm Laborers to work on Sod in the field on the farm.

Planting, cultivation, harvesting, sanitation, and post-harvest cleanup, deployment, and maintenance irrigation in the field. The worker will perform activities related with growing grass and sod on a commercial turfgrass operation.

Workers will be required to aid the soil preparation by manual and mechanical means for sprigging, mowing, rolling, cutting, aerating, and stacking of grass pallets, including cleaning field rocks, roots, limbs, stumps, trees, and debris.

Workers will be expected to propagate water, fertilize, spray, monitor, trim cut, roll, stack, load, transport (within the farm perimeters), and discard sod.

Workers will be required to build, load and unload pallets by hand.

Agricultural equipment operators (forklift): will transport bags certified grass seed, use both center pivot, and travelling gun irrigation systems, operate diesel and electric irrigation pumps, and pallet market machines. Workers will be operating, riding mowers, and push mowers. Additional agricultural equipment operators may include tractors, gators, bobcats, disc, cultivators, mowers, and pick-up trucks (to transport equipment, materials etc.) in the field on the form. Workers will use tractors to drag, tow, and lift sod specific equipment in the fields. Workers may use forklifts and bobcats to load and unload rolls of harvested sod in the field or shed in the field on the farm. The employer will provide training at no cost to the workers.

Special Requirements

No experience necessary for this position. Lifting up to 50 pounds frequently and able to use hand tools, including cutting knives. Must be able to work under conditions where skin and clothing become heavily soiled with mud, water, grease, etc. Must be able to work outdoors in inclement weather conditions, including rain, cold, high winds, etc. for long periods of time. Work involves frequent stooping, bending, and working in bent or stooped positions. Must be able to walk and stand up extensively. Smoking, alcohol, firearms are prohibited in the place of employment or residential housing.

Must be able to adhere important safety and quality standard procedures. Workers must have the ability to work rapidly, consistently with a professional, positive, respectful team-based attitude and keep safety and health of fellow workers. Wear proper safety equipment required to perform daily job duties.
