Job description
Numerous crop types; must be able to differentiate crop maturity and quality. Identification of individual crop types and varieties is essential. Must know or be able to learn correct areas of cutting at harvest. Planting and care of tomatoes, cabbage, corn, potatoes, peas, apples, cane fruits, melons, carrots, strawberries, etc. Care of bedding plants in greenhouse. Placement and removal of crop covers and plastic. Hand hoeing and weeding, straw application and runner removal of crop covers and plastic. Working on packing line weighing containers to the pound. Applying pallet wrap, box lids, etc. Drip line and irrigation placement. Cleaning of building, shipping crates, and other farm tasks. Work is usually performed outdoors, sometimes under extreme hot or cold conditions. Work is physically demanding requiring workers to bend, stoop, lift, and carry up to 50 pounds on a frequent basis. Duties may require working off the ground at heights up to 20 feet using ladders or climbing. Workers must understand and follow food safety rules at all times. Experience required; 30 days in vegetable or apple duties listed.
