Job description

GENERAL FARM LABOR:
1. Worker may be involved in all field maintenance. They will remove weeds and undesired plants in fields as directed. Worker will be required to either weed by hand or using a hoe. Worker will be required to constantly stoop to select and pull weeds without damaging desired plants.

2. Worker may be required to plant or transplant vegetable plants. Worker will complete preparation tasks including cleaning planter units daily. Worker will carefully monitor planting population. Worker will need to be able to fill fertilizer or water tanks and seed units.

3. Worker may be required to work in greenhouses for the growing of the Employer?s products. This may involve planting, irrigating, or the general movement of plants.

4. If worker is eligible to drive under Michigan law, Employer may require worker to drive to and from the worksite and within 50 miles as directed. If worker has appropriate license endorsement, worker may be required to drive a semi and transport only Employer?s product.

5. Worker may be required to operate a forklift and load/unload product and pallets as directed by supervisor.

6. Worker may be required to operate a tractor to: plant, till, cultivate, spray herbicides, pesticides and/or fertilizer, and engage in general tractor work. General tractor work includes but is not limited to transporting, pulling, pushing, loading and unloading of product. Workers engaged in spraying activities will be trained by Employer as required.

7. Worker will be required to clean farm equipment as instructed by supervisor.

8. Worker will assemble, disassemble, operate and repair irrigation equipment with employer provided wrenches as instructed. Worker will be required to stoop and bend as directed by supervisor. Worker will be required to lift up to 60 lbs.
Pay will be hourly.

HARVEST LETTUCE/CORN/PARSNIPS/RUHBARB: Worker may be required to hand harvest leafy greens, corn, parsnips, and rhubarb. Worker will be required to selectively pick and possibly cut with a knife only certain quality, size, and maturity as instructed by supervisor. Worker will transport boxes to and from field. Worker will pick, trim, and then pack leafy greens, corn, parsnips, and rhubarb in produce boxes. Worker will also lift, stack, secure, sort, and transport full produce boxes. Workers must be able to lift up to 60 pounds overhead and stoop for long periods of time.
Pay will be hourly.

LETTUCE/CORN PACKING: Worker will dump, clean, grade, sort, count, pack, and stack lettuce and corn to customer standards, as directed by management. Worker must be able to adapt between various crop packing formats. Will include weighing, palletizing, assembling boxes, carrying and lifting up to 60 lbs. Worker will have long hours on feet. Care must be taken as to not damage the product. Workers will clean packing areas and lines as a group daily and between various crops. Worker will organize cleaning materials and tools before end of day according to supervisors? instructions. Worker will assemble and move containers and will position and move pallets with forklift as necessary and directed. Worker will be required to wash and sanitize buckets, bins, and other packing house containers used daily as directed.
Pay will be hourly.

Special Requirements

Job requires worker to complete tasks in general farm labor, packing, and harvest of leafy greens, lettuce, corn, parsnips and rhubarb.

Experience Requirement: 3 verifiable months commercial hand harvest of vegetables required. Applicants must furnish job references from employers within the last 5 years establishing acceptable prior experience.

Season Commitment: Job offered requires worker be available for and worker agrees to work every day that work is available for entire employment period.

Worker must be able to perform job description duties in safe manner consistent with established safety procedures.

Work begins at assigned time as instructed by supervisor. Work may be scheduled during moderate rain, in high humidity, when trees are wet with dew/rain, and in temperatures as low as 15 degrees F and up to 105 degrees F. Worker should have suitable clothing for variable weather conditions.
