Job description

Temporary Seasonal Position:

All applicants must be able, willing, qualified to perform work described & must be available for entire period.

Employee will have to pull the bin tags of each bin of onions before the forklift driver places the bin into the production area. The collected bin tags will have to be held on to and classified by the bin tag date and lot information. These tags will then proceed to be handed to the pallet tag associates for processing. At the end of production day, the tag puller will submit all classified bin tags to the main office personnel.
Bin Pusher
This employee is expected to operate the bin filler and ensure each bin is full before ending the filling cycle, to then place the proper bin tag with the onion size classification before being pulled out for storage. This person will also ensure they have enough empty bins at their disposal (on-hold) to avoid delays. Additionally, they will inform of any bin filler malfunctions and clear onion jams.
Forklift Drivers
Drivers will ensure their forklift is fully operational by completing the forklift checklist each day and inform office personnel of any malfunctions. Responsibilities include bringing undamaged empty pallets to the palletizer, transport pallets full of onion bags to the bag wrappers and store those pallets in the queue location for shipping. They are also responsible to bring in empty cull bins and removing them from production lines, after they are full of onions. Other tasked duties include bringing empty bins from the exterior of the building and placing them in queue for the bin fillers; Removing full bins from bin fillers and store them into the dry room; Place empty bins in semi-truck trailer beds and download incoming raw product bins from the farms; Transport dried onion bins to feed the production line and removing empty bins from dumping areas to stack them; The driver will have to collect onion pallets and ensure proper color and size is being selected from the queue location to supply shipping docks. Finally, at the end of their shift, driver is expected to clean and sanitize their forklift.
Cleaning and Sweeping
Responsible to ensure all the assigned work zones are clean and free of onions on the floor and trash. They must remove floor obstacles that represent a hazard to other workers; Must ask forklift drivers to supply empty culls bins and to remove them when full capacity is reached. Additionally, they are to inspect trash receptacles and inform of their fullness level and assist sanitation crew with any cleaning-related tasks. This must be done throughout the production period.
Bag Straightener/Bag Helper
Person is responsible for ensuring the onion bag being transported in the elevator conveyor belt is properly sealed and positioned in a vertical manner, not sideways or horizontal. If the bag gets jammed in the elevator, or before the bag reaches its destination, this person must clear the jam and restore flow to the palletizer. They must also assist the onion bagger to place onion bag tags and maintain a clean work zone. Additionally, if required, they must close, fill, and stack product by hand.
Filed Bin Tagger
Person is responsible for placing field bin ID tags on all incoming onion field bins.
Occasionally, workers will perform general farming duties such as weeding or picking green chile; only during downtime in the shed.
Must be able to work long hours, standing for long periods of time and in all types of weather conditions (cold, heat, wind, wet, etc.).

Special Requirements

1 month experience required.
Employer is a drug-free workplace.
Once hired, worker may be required to take a random drug test at no cost to the worker. Testing positive or failure to comply may result in immediate termination from employment.
