Job description
Workers will plant hundreds of oyster seeds in specially made cages located on leased water parcels where our harvesting is performed; workers will repair damaged cages caused by aquatic predators that kill and eat our harvest. Workers will delicately handle the oysters during their growing period, measure growth rate and detect signs of diseases or fungus, which is important to detect and cure once detected to ensure a healthy growth process; workers will flip all cages on water parcels to ensure rapid growth and avoid oysters to bind as they grow. Oysters that measure 3" in size which is the consumable size, are removed from cages and the smaller oysters take their place to continue a healthy growth; oysters of 3" in size are hosed down using pressurized hoses, removing alga, slim, residue, or debris, such as seaweed, sand or any non-toxic growths on oyster shells, and are placed in wet sacks and delivered to the processing plant where the oysters must undergo a thorough inspection and process to ensure the oysters are safe for consumption before they are packaged according to consumers request and delivered to consumers or wholesalers. WORKERS WILL NOT OPEN SHELLS. Accommodations, tools, supplies, and transportation are provided to workers at no cost. Rotating shifts M-F - 4:00AM to 12:00PM or 12:00PM to 8:00PM and Saturday 9:00AM to 2:00PM or 2:00PM to 7:00PM
Special Requirements
Workers must be able to lift up to 50lbs, work rotating shifts, endure standing, bending, walking and working outdoors in water and on small boat to perform duties.
