Job description

FARM EQUIPMENT OPERATION: Worker will operate equipment used in agricultural production, such as tractors and implements, forklift, tractor-drawn machinery, and self-propelled machinery for land preparation, maintenance, planting, fertilization, and cultivation. Worker will drive tractors and implements to and from Employer’s worksites as instructed by Supervisor. Worker may manipulate controls to set, activate, and adjust mechanisms and machinery. Worker may attach farm implements such as wagons, trailers, irrigation equipment, and harvesters to tractors using bolts or hand tools. Workers may operate tractors and/or forklifts to plant, gather, harvest, pack, produce, irrigate, and any other operation needed to complete all farm related activities. Worker may load and unload bins and containers of product weighing up to 60 lbs. onto trucks/trailers/wagons and to feed machines with products. Worker will use forklifts to transfer product. Worker may operate grading and digging equipment. Worker may mix specified materials and chemicals, and dump solutions, powders, and seeds into planter and sanitation equipment. Worker may perform maintenance and troubleshooting to repair equipment.
Pay will be hourly.

FARM EQUIPMENT REPAIR, MAINTENANCE AND OPERATION SAFETY MEASURES. Worker will operate and work around equipment in safe manner as instructed, including: maintaining safe distance from running equipment and not touching moving part of machine. Worker must never attempt to un-jam clothes, ice or cardboard while machines are running. Worker must not stand between moving tractor and implements. Worker must not stand on hitches, forks or ride on fenders of tractors or forklifts. Worker will be trained on and must always practice safety when using equipment. Worker will ensure that no one is in front or behind equipment when operating. Safety guards must not be removed. If a guard is damaged or missing, worker must report to Supervisor not operate the machine. Workers must notify Supervisor when machinery malfunctions or appears not safe to operate. Worker will inspect, observe and listen to machinery operation to detect equipment malfunctions. Worker may be required to repair and maintain farm vehicles, implements and mechanical equipment by adjusting, repairing, and servicing. All equipment must be driven safely to protect operator, other workers, products, crops and other equipment. Any equipment operated during foggy or low visibility conditions and/or at dusk or dawn requires operator to take extra care. Worker must turn provided flashing lights on and verify their operation before driving or operating on state and/or public roads. If light is not available, vehicles equipped with such equipment must be immediately in front of and immediately behind tractors and/or towed equipment. Worker must ensure that a red flashing light must be visible at 500 feet of distance to an oncoming vehicle. Failure to follow safety requirements and operating instructions will be cause for progressive disciplinary action, up to and including termination.
Pay will be hourly.

Special Requirements

Job requires worker to complete tasks in farm equipment operation and truck driving to deliver product tied to the planting, growing, harvesting, and packing of beets, carrots, parsley, parsley root, cilantro, radish, dill, spinach, cabbage, leeks, celery root, and turnips; packing of parsnips. Worker may also be required to complete general farm labor and packing tasks related to same crops.

Experience Requirement: 3 verifiable months of driving a manual transmission semi-truck. Applicants must possess a valid drivers license with CDL Class A with passenger endorsement or international equivalent. Applicants must be able to read and write. Applicants must furnish job references from employers of the last 3 years establishing acceptable prior experience.

Season Commitment: Job offered requires worker be available for and worker agrees to work every day that work is available for entire employment period.
