Job description
Duties may vary from time to time. Workers will perform assigned duties as instructed by their supervisor. Perform manual labor. Watermelons- Workers will harvest, cut, pick and field pack watermelons in the field. Use hand tools such as shears and knives. Duties also include tying, loading and unloading stakes, cleaning, loading and unloading harvested products. Duties will also include operating forklift, assisting mechanic and pulling weeds. Grade and sort products according to factors such as color, species, length, width, appearance, feel and quality to endure correct processing and usage. Discard inferior or defective products and/or foreign matter, and place acceptable products in containers for further processing. Weigh products or estimate their weight, visually or by feel. Place products in containers according to grade and mark grades on containers. Measure weigh and count products and materials. Examine and inspect containers, materials, and products to ensure that packing specifications are met. Workers must perform manual labor to pull plastic from the field and load onto a trailer. Removal of irrigation equipment. Clean and maintain work area. Use hand tools such as shovels, trowels, hoes, tampers, pruning hooks, shears, and knives. Duties may include tilling soil, applying fertilizers, transplanting, pulling weeds, raking, cleaning around shed area, thinning, or pruning crops, applying pesticides, cleaning, grading, and packing harvested product. Workers will also do staking, tying, loading, removing, and unloading of stakes. Workers will also be expected to do COVID related cleaning and sanitizing in housing and vehicles. May repair fences and farm buildings and participate in irrigation activities. OFLC administration publishes new AEWR rates yearly and we reserve the right to adjust our job order to the new published rate regardless of rate increase or decrease. Raises and bonuses may be offered to any seasonal worker, at the employer’s discretion, based on individual factors including but not limited to performance, experience, adherence to work with rules and ability to follow supervisor’s instructions. Workers may drive to/from fields and grocery store.
Special Requirements
Must be 18 years or older. The employer may conduct a criminal background check on all new applicants for employment. All tools, supplies, and equipment will be provided at no cost to the workers. Must assist with all Good Agricultural Practices polices. Most of the workday is spent on ones feet and outdoors. Workers may stand in one place for any period of time. Workers must be able to climb, stand, sit, stoop, squat, kneel, crouch, bend (from the waist), push, pull, reach and lift 10-100 lbs. Work is performed in outdoor agricultural fields and involves exposure to sun wind rain, soil, mud, dust, heat, cold and other natural elements. Workers must be able to withstand working in the direct sunlight and weather conditions ranging from hot and humid weather, moderate rain and cold while performing their required job duties. Hours and days of work may vary due to weather conditions. Cell hone can only be used during breaks, emergencies and to communicate with supervisor.
