Job description

Duties of the forest conservation worker are to develop and maintain woodlands. This includes:
applying pesticides and herbicides through sprays, soil incorporation, or chemical application
on trees and shrubs to prep future planting sites and/or maintain current sites.
Hand planting tree seedlings w/o J/U root using a planting hoe or a planting shovel. Tubing or
netting may be performed to protect the seedlings. Pruning, slashing, and trail construction is
done with chainsaws and other hand-held equipment.
Other duties of developing and maintaining woodlands include: clearing, brush piling, pile
covering for future disposal, slash pile burning, and other activities as per Forestry Land
Management Services onetonline.org) 45-4011.
All duties are performed in various weather conditions. The worker must be able to walk up to
15 miles a day and stoop and bend while carrying a pack weighing up to 50lbs. All duties are
performed in rough terrain, up to 30-40% slopes. Locations may be in remote areas with no
trails and accessed by unimproved roads.

Special Requirements

MUST BE ABLE TO PLANT THE FOLLOWING NUMBER OF TREES IN AN 8 HOUR DAY: BY THE END OF THE 1ST WEEK, 800. BY THE END OF THE 2ND WEEK, 900. BY THE
END OF THE 3RD WEEK, 1000.
