Job description

Workers will perform assigned duties as instructed by their supervisor, either in the cucumber fields or at the cucumber sorting/ grading shed. In the field, workers will be required to hand weed around the plants. Workers will also be assigned a row or series of rows and will be required to pick by hand or machine according to criteria described and demonstrated by managers such as size, color and maturity of the cucumbers and place them in field containers or wagons. Workers may be asked to drive tractors in the field, shovel, haul, spread manure, dig holes, ditches and trenches, stake rows or tie off plants and row markers. Workers may also be asked to manually plant, cultivate, harvest, count, use hand tools such as shovels, trowels, hoes, tampers, pruning hooks, shears, and knives. As needed, workers may be asked to repair fences and farm buildings and clean farm equipment. Workers at the grading/ sorting shed will be responsible for unloading containers and wagons on to the conveyors. The grading / sorting process includes visual inspections, hand sorting, removal of debris, waste, and other foreign materials that are with the raw product as it moves along the conveyor system. As the cucumbers are sorted by size, workers may be asked to drive forklifts to move the product away from the sorting deck, clean equipment and shed area. All workers will complete safety training before working around any farm equipment or shed machinery. With confirmation of a valid license, a few workers may be asked to drive other workers to/from housing to fields and to the grocery store once a week.

Did you know that... there are 2 types of H-2 visas?

Agricultural workers get H-2A visas. H-2B workers are in non-agricultural jobs like construction.
