Job description

Worker will be required to perform a variety of duties related to the production of potatoes. The majority of the work activities during the overall contract period, however, will be related to harvesting, washing, and shipping potatoes.
Duties will include the following responsibilities: paint/repair/maintain farm structures; replace/repair fencing; operate vehicle, motor bike, or all-terrain vehicle in the course of performing duties; operate machines and equipment such as skid steers, forklifts, and Spudnik potato handling equipment, including but not limited to, pilers, sorters and conveyors; push button to start machinery; check conveyor belts and machines for proper operation; tend/monitor machine and product flow to ensure proper movement of product; sort potatoes according to grade, color and size; discard diseased/rotting product, rocks and foreign matter; wash crop; follow proper product handling of sanitation and cleaning products to protect self, food, and equipment; understand/follow basic verbal/written instruction; report malfunctions and alert equipment operator of equipment clogging/malfunctions; aid operator in correct machine performance; communicate with supervisors, leaders, inspectors, maintenance workers, co-workers, etc.; attend educational workshops and training such as worker protection and basic sanitation principles; load crops on trucks or field conveyors; drive, load/unload trucks; perform small repairs and conduct daily maintenance duties; perform maintenance on processing, sizing, bagging, boxing, and loading equipment as well as devices and control instruments; remove defective parts by dismantling devices using hoists, cranes, hand and power tools; lubricate moving parts; clean washing facility from ceiling to floor, including but not exclusive to the equipment, tables, and floor drains; dry clean, rinse, foam with detergent, and sanitize buildings, fixtures, and equipment; sweep/shovel debris; discard debris; maintain the work area and equipment in a clean and orderly condition and follow prescribed food safety regulations; perform general cleanup of farm areas.

Special Requirements

Employer required drug testing will be performed post-hire at the employer's expense to ensure the safety of all workers operating in or around large mechanized farming equipment. Applicants hired must be able to obtain a valid drivers license as driving on public roads may be required.
