Job description
Planting and Harvesting sugar cane , crawfish, rice and soybeans.
Planting sugar cane involves walking behind a tractor and throwing cane on the rows for long periods of time in temperatures that sometime exceed 100 degrees. Some tractor driving
Sugar can harvesting involves tractor driving and operation of the cane cutter and loader
Crawfish seending involves use of a four wheeler and wading in the ponds to empty sacks of seed crawfish.
Crawfish harvesting involves use of a push boat, operation of a 4 wheeler, bagging, washing, loading, weighing and storage of crawfish.
Both jobs involve stooping, bending heavy lifting (must be able to lift 80 lbs.)and working out side in inclement weather. Also, routine maintenance and cleaning of tools and equipment.
Crawfish seeding runs mid August thru late August. Cane planting starts mid August and runs thru mid September. Cane harvest starts in mid September and runs thru mid January. Crawfish harvest starts in mid January and ends mid June.
Rice planting involves repairing the levees of the ponds agter the crawfish are harvested and maintaining the water levels in the ponds. Rice harvesting involves tractor driving pulling grain carts to the the trucks so rice can be hauled to rice mills or grain bins on the farm.
Soybean planting involves tractor driving, plowing the land and and planting the crop.
Soybean harvesting involves tractor driving bulling grain carts to take the rice from the field to the trucks so beans can be transported to the grain bins or the elevators.
All worker are needed for the entire 10 month period to perform these duties.
Special Requirements
Drug testing is checked because Louisiana Workers Comp. law states if there is an injury or death due to an accident a drug test must be preformed. Drug test, if applicable, will be preformed at no cost to the employee.
