Job description

The job requires a minimum of three (3) months experience in tasks associated with farm experience.

The farm work position includes duties associated with the planting, cultivation, harvesting of various fruits and vegetables. This work can require standing, walking, stooping, bending, and lifting up to 50 pounds for long periods of time outdoors in all weather conditions. This work requires adherence to important food safety and quality standard operating procedures and the ability to work quickly and consistently alongside fellow workers with a positive, professional, team based attitude and a consideration for the safety and health of fellow workers and of the consumers who will purchase and consume the crops grown, harvested, packed, and shipped from the farm.

Workers may perform the following job duties on any of the commodities listed above and various points during the duration of the contract.

Quality Checker: The worker may be asked to check the quality by moving down a row checking quality to ensure that all seed tassels were sufficiently removed.

Corn Sorter: The worker will perform duties in the harvest complex that will involve removing damaged, diseased, moldy, and rogue ears of seed corn from the sorting belt. Placing unhusked ears of corn on the return belt.

Grader: Grader will support the production process with labor as needed in the sorting area. [Follow oral or written instructions]. Sort out all nonconforming material, i.e. husks/stalks, damaged/moldy product, rogues and off-types, inert material (weeks & refuse). Sort out all tightly husked material to be conveyed back to the husking beds and reworked. Work in conjunction with other sorting personnel with kernel clean in the sorting area as needed. Sorters are responsible for keeping work area clean and orderly, while performing reach motion with arms and hands, twisting at the waist, stoop, talk and hear - while performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to continuous elevated noise levels and moving conveyors.

Green Corn Dump: Daily activities include unloading of ear corn trucks, taking barrel and moisture samples, documentation of received loads, cleaning out trucks, kernel cleaning dump equipment, and housekeeping and other duties as assigned.

Husking Bed Operator: Monitor and maintain flow of ear corn through husking beds in Husk Sort Building and complete kernel cleans of husk sort line along with housekeeping and other duties as assigned.

Bin Fill (Dry Roofs): Monitor ear corn flow into dryer bin and switch bins when the correct depth is reached and housing and other duties as assigned.

Bin Unload Day: Unload dryer bin sending ear corn to shelter, kernel clean dryer bin, soring dry ear corn, and housekeeping and other duties as assigned. The crew will be split into teams, each working from one of the dryer complexes sending corn to the shelling lines.

Field Task: Weeding, raking, leaf sampling, gene checks, staking, picking up trash, and stocking harvest supplies.

Production Harvesting: Unloading trucks, hand sort of ear corn, operating husking equipment, loading and unloading ear corn, dryers, assisting in shelling operations, cleaning and maintaining equipment, maintenance and cleaning of plant grounds in the harvest area, and other basic maintenance tasks.

Assisting in the cleanup of the equipment and work area during hybrid code changes. Cleaning the lawn area around the harvest complex, as well as cleaning the work area at the end of each shift.
