Job description
Workers will perform assigned duties as instructed by their supervisor. Duties may vary from time to time. Sweet potatoes –Use and riding of mechanical digging equipment to dig potatoes. May harvest sweet potatoes by hand with use of bucket. May be asked to drive tractor while pulling digger. Must be able to sort, grade, & pack potatoes by size, quality, or type. Load & unload boxes on trucks, trailers, and sweet potato harvesters. Workers will clear ground of rocks, sticks, and roots by hand and clear brush and trees with chain saw. Manually weeding fields by hand/using hand tools & other farm tools. Use wood to build & repair boxes for digger with the use of nail guns/hammers. Drain water from fields with hand tools & shovels when needed. Repair, maintain, & clean all hand tools & mechanical equipment prior to and after use. Workers may also plant, cultivate, and harvest soybeans, cotton, and corn. Workers must be able to work with minimum supervision. Workers may be asked to drive farm vehicles. May Transport workers to fields and or grocery store. Raises and bonuses may be offered to any seasonal worker, at the employer’s discretions, based on individual factors including but not limited to, performance, experience, number of hours worked in the season, number of seasons worked with the company, adherence to work rules and ability to follow supervisor instructions. The OFLC Administration publishes new AEWR rates yearly and we reserve the right to adjust our job order to the new rate regardless of rate increase or decrease.
Special Requirements
Applicants must be 18 years old or older. If driving, a valid drivers license is required. Three (3) months experience needed in riding mechanical diggers, sorting, & grading sweet potatoes. Safety training for use of farm equipment & tractors will be provided. The ability of an employee to safely operate machinery will be left to the discretion of management. To ensure the safety of all employees, those interested in operating machinery must be able to communicate with & adequately follow instructions given by management. Management reserves the right to restrict employees from operational duties who do not show proficiency to effectively communicate with management & may therefore place other employees safety in risk. All tools, supplies, & equipment will be provided at no cost to workers. The majority of the workday is spent on ones feet & outdoors. Workers may stand in one place for any period of time.
