Job description
We are looking for a worker to help us seasonally to winter cattle scheduled to be shipped in the spring to summer grass. Our program is to buy, in the fall of the year, 300-500# bawling steer calves which we wean. During this weaning process they are fed a total mixed ration. After they are straightened up (weaned 50-60 days), we ship these steers to graze on crop aftermath (mainly cornstalks). This winter grazing is done on fields. This requires us to build temporary high tensile fence around the fields and take out the temporary fence after we are done grazing. In the spring of the year, these steers are shipped to ranches in Wyoming where they are custom grazed until late summer/early fall. We have no responsibilities in the care of the cattle on these Wyoming ranches. The cattle are marketed on a video auction and do not return to the ranch. This enterprise is seasonal, and our busy season is from September until early June when the steers are shipped to Wyoming. Once shipped we have no steers that need to be attended to until the fall. This worker will be responsible for feeding a ration to calves, equipment maintenance, helping with animal health and putting in and taking out temporary electric fence on fields.
Special Requirements
Job requires extensive sitting, walking, pushing, pulling, repetitive movements, frequent stooping and exposure to extreme outdoor temperatures. Must be able to lift 50 lbs. Job requires a regular drivers license and 3 months experience.
