Job description

Crops harvesting are: Tomato, bell pepper, squash, cucumber and watermelon

Laying plastic-shoveling, making trenches, sitting on machine and examining the plastic rolls, loading plastic and fertilizer on to equipment

Irrigation-examining hoses to ensure there are no ruptures, putting on couplings and fittings, shoveling to clean the area, cutting hose to proper length

planting-handing out plant trays, taking the plants out of the tray and putting them in the pre-dug holes and topping off with soil to ensure the plant is covered

staking-taking a bundle of stakes and placing them in the ground in-between each plant, also inspecting any stakes that have fallen are fixed and upright

hammering-taking the hammer and walking alongside the bed and hammering the stakes into the ground

pruning-taking 2-3 prunes off the bottom of the plant and make sure there are no weeds coming out of the hold around the plant

tying- tie string around the stakes to ensure the plant stays in an upright motion

picking- harvesting the fruit of the crop and placing them softly in a bucket and taking it to be unloaded at the loading truck or picking up fruit and gently tossing them to a person on top of the truck to be loaded softly

dumping-receiving the buckets from the pickers and softly dumping the fruit into a plastic bin, also inspect plastic bins to ensure they are up to food safety code.

weeding-pulling out weeds alongside plastic and on top of plastic in the holes

cleaning-picking up trash around loading stations, in-between rows, filling up stations and anywhere else.

packing-inspecting fruit to ensure it is free of damage and is of good quality, placing fruit inside of a box or bin properly, taking pallets and placing them in the proper location so that boxes or bins may be placed on them, making boxes or bins, placing tags or stickers on fruit or boxes or bins, cleaning the area where packing is done and maintaining the area clean, strapping the boxes or bins to ensure they are in good form, stacking boxes or bins full of fruit or empty on pallets or on top of each other, culling and throwing away culls in a predetermined location.

pulling plastic-pulling plastic and drip tape from the bed and placing piles of tape and plastic on top of the bed next to the road way every 20 feet

cutting string-cutting string and bunching it up and plastic bunches at 100 feet intervals and ensure that all string has been pulled from the stakes

pulling stakes-pulling stakes from each bed in 21 pile groups and placing the 21 stakes in-between the last bed and second to last bed next to the road way and tying the stakes with string in a tight bunch.

picking up stakes-picking up the piles of stakes and handing them to a person on the truck or standing on the truck and receiving the piles of stakes and placing them on pallets to be unloaded.

burning string and plastic- walking along the piles and lighting them up with a small propane torch.
