Job description

We have a need for seasonal ranch hands starting on November 15 through March 14. Cattle are brought in from summer range in November to ranch pastures. Winter Feeding and watering begins Nov 15 and goes thru the middle of March. During this period the General Farm worker will be assisting care of livestock.
After the middle of March, cattle are moved to summer, leased BLM range. WE DO NOT FEED livestock from March to November during the summer months. The cattle feed on range lands and drink from automatic watering troughs.

The General Farm/Ranch position will be feeding cows, heifers, bulls, calves, and yearlings with a tractor/feed wagon and a tractor/hay processor. They will also put out salt/mineral as needed.

The Livestock Workers will be required to operate equipment to feed 2100 head of cattle daily.

Duties related to livestock will include the following: check physical characteristics, observe general condition of livestock and apply the appropriate care; examine animals to detect illness/injury/disease, rate of weight gain to determine delivery time, assist in delivery and night calving, apply or administer medications/vaccines, mix feed/additives and feed/water livestock ONLY during months when livestock is not on the Range; place mineral blocks; drive equipment to haul/distribute feed/water; herd livestock; confine livestock in stalls; clean/disinfect livestock corrals/stalls/sheds; dock, castrate, brand, clip/tag and clamp livestock; maintain records on animals; and hoist/stack bales of hay onto and off of wagon/truck.

Most duties are performed out of doors, and entail exposure to extreme heat, cold, dust, rain and other environmental conditions common in fields. Worker must crouch, bend, lift and carry items weighing up to 100 pounds. 3 months of experience is required

Special Requirements

The anticipated workday is 8 hours a day, Monday through Saturday; average of 48 hours/week. The actual hours may vary and there may be periods when little or no work will be available due to weather, time of year and the requirements of the cropping program. The worker may be offered more than 8 hours per day, but is only required to work 8 hours per day. Workers may be requested, but will not be required, to work on the worker's Sabbath.
