Job description
Citrus harvesting. Following the supervisors instructions, the worker will place a picking sack over their shoulder and carry an 12 ft ladder from the field truck to the particular area of the grove to be harvested. Worker positions ladder against the tree and within reach of the fruit in a leaning position, taking care not to break limbs, damage the tree, knock off fruit, or interfere with other workers, in a secure position to prevent slipping or falling and possible injury to themselves or other workers. Worker will remove fruit from the tree and place into pick sack. When pick sack is full take to fruit bins located in the grove and drop fruit pick sack into bins. Prolonged standing, bending, stooping, and reaching. Job is outdoors and continues in all types of weather. Must be able to work long hours in direct sunlight, where weather conditions may be hot and humid, rain is possible, and worker will be exposed to pollen the entire day while performing he job duties. The majority of the workday is spent on one’s feet and outdoors. Hours and days of work may vary due to weather conditions. Must be able to lift 80-100lbs. to shoulder height repetitively throughout the workday and able to lift and carry 80-100lbs. in field. Use of personal cell phone or other personal electronic device during working hours strictly prohibited except for work-related calls or emergencies and violation may result in immediate termination. All physical requirements will take place in an outdoor environment exposed to the elements for extended periods of time.
General Clean-up of Grove Property and Housing for Harvesting Workers: Workers on physical work restrictions or when harvesting work is not available may be required to perform miscellaneous clean-up work on grove property, on structures utilized in the grove operation, and on housing for harvesting workers. Such clean-up activities may be performed regularly or in the event of a hurricane/tropical storm that may include the planting, sprouting, trimming, pruning, and painting and maintenance of trees; debris, weed, and vine removal; irrigation maintenance; housing and structure cleaning and maintenance; and general grove clean-up as required. May be necessary to assist in the use and maintenance of farm equipment such as tractors, trucks, Forklift, Goats/Loaders, buses, trailers, and harvest machinery, etc. It is estimated that 20% of the time will be spent growing and maintaining, and 80% harvesting the products. Workers will be paid the highest of the adverse effect wage rate, the prevailing wage rate, or the applicable minimum wage rate for time spent performing such clean-up work.
Agriculture field workers who posses a CDL may be asked to help as haulers. Haulers are required to complete each step of the haul as part of necessary field to processing facility activities for the harvest. Haulers must be physically and mentally healthy. Each worker is expected to operate hauling vehicles efficiently and safely through all types of routes. Haulers must be able to operate tractors, trailers, semi-trailers, and have adequate knowledge to make minor adjustments or repairs to these vehicles. Workers who possess a CDL who help as haulers will be asked to go through an employer paid post-hire background check and an employer paid post-hire mandated drug/alcohol test. Haulers must have and maintain a suitable driving record and be insured by the employers insurance company. Daily job assignments will be made by, and at the sole discretion of, the Company Farm Managers as the progression of the growing season dictates.
Special Requirements
Workers with the proper valid commercial driver's license may be asked to transport workers to and from the job site, operate hauling vehicles, and move trucks/trailers within the harvest site and deliver the harvested product to the nearby packinghouse. All time spent driving will be compensated at $13.88 per hour.
