Job description

Worker must assist with calving, attend to cattle in barns during calving season, herd cattle into corrals and stalls and chutes, manually restrain cattle, vaccinate cattle, may clean stalls, pens and other equipment used for the production of cattle. Herd livestock to pasture for grazing; sort livestock; round up strays; drive trucks and other equipment to distribute feed to animals on the range; ride 4-wheelers to move cows; manually restrain animals when required; applies medication to cuts and bruises; sprays livestock with insecticide; feeds livestock supplementary rations and mineral blocks; and inspects and repairs fences used to contain herds. Workers must be willing and able to perform tasks capably and efficiently without close supervision. Must be able to make make minor equipment repairs, and perform routine maintenance and cleaning of farm implements, and operate tractors and farm implements required to plant, cultivate, and harvest hay and other crops; must manually hoist/stack hay bales; pick rocks, repair/replace fence in rough terrain. Must be able to find and maintain bearings to grazing areas. Additional hours and split shifts needed during haying, calving season. The job entails working around farm machinery, a variety of farm animals as well as exposure to predators.

Special Requirements

Additional hours may be required during calving. Workers may be asked to work Sundays but is not required to do so.
