Job description

Performs any of the following tasks to attend to livestock: Maintain heated watering system and operating snow removal equipment in order to operate feed wagons. Operate tractor with feed wagon or semis to pick up feed/bales from different locations sometimes on public roads. Mixes feed and additives, fills feed troughs with feed and water for livestock and remove ice formed in water. Examines animals to detect diseases and injuries. Be able to diagnose problems, mechanical or animal and describe over the phone. Be able to pick out sick cattle and move them to barn for aid. Vaccinates animals by placing vaccine in drinking water or feed using syringes and hypodermic needles. Applies medications to cuts and bruises, spray livestock with insecticide. Needs to be able to check cows anytime, day or night and dress for all kinds of weather. Confines livestock in stalls washes and clips them to prepare them for calving and assists veterinarian in delivery of offspring. Be able to tell when a calving cow needs help and to aid in birth with a calf jack. Be able to load a newborn that is cold and take to barn. Binds or clamps testes or surgically removes testes to castrate livestock. Clips identifying notches or symbols on animal, or brand animal, using branding iron, to indicate ownership. Cleans livestock stalls and sheds, using disinfectant solutions, brushes and shovels. Maintain buildings and equipment. Maintain breeding, filling out feed sheets and costs records. Must be reliable to work unsupervised and speak with proficient English to clearly communicate with employer about problems or tasks. Livestock: Beef Cattle

Special Requirements

Minimum of 3 months of experience is required. Must be able to obtain a CDL within 30 days of hire. Employer requires drug screen post-hire at employers expense due to DOT physical requirements for CDL. Failure to pass drug screen will result in termination of employment. Must be able to obtain a CDL and have an insurable driving record. Lift and carry items weighing up to 75 pounds. The worker will be exposed to extreme temperatures. Extensive pushing and pulling is required. Wage rate may increase with verifiable experience. Employer may reward exceptional work with monetary or other benefits in addition to those listed here in his sole discretion.
