Job description
November-January: Pull newborn calves and yearlings off grass pasture; wean calves by separating calves from mothers; monitor cows and calves for stress during weaning; capture and relocate calves that have escaped fences; prepare winter rye, wheat and fescue for grazing by constructing temporary fencing and installing temporary watering and feeding equipment; move cattle to grazing. February-April: Preparing cows for calving; ensuring existing fence stability and fixing any problem areas; calve cows; monitor cows and heifers multiple times daily for any early calving; pull calves from struggling cows; monitor mothers and babies multiple times daily; break ice in watering facilities, ensure hay, salt and mineral blocks availability depending on weather conditions; check all cows and calves for weather related issues; move cows and calves to grass; sell yearling calves; take down and store temporary fencing, feeding and watering equipment.
