Job description

Performs any of the following tasks to attend to livestock, such as cattle on farm. Maintain heated watering system. Operate snow removal equipment. Operate a tractor with loader and/or feeder wagon. Mix feed and additives, fill feed troughs with feed and water for livestock. Remove ice formed in water. Examine animals to detect diseases and injuries. Vaccinate animals by placing vaccine in drinking water or feed using syringes and hypodermic needles. Apply medications to cuts and bruises; spray livestock with insecticide. Confine livestock in stalls; wash and clip them. Assist in delivery of offspring of calves, if needed. Bind or clamp testes or surgically remove testes to castrate livestock. Clip identifying notches or symbols on animal, or brand animal, using branding iron, to indicate ownership. Clean livestock stalls and sheds, using disinfectant solutions, brushes and shovels. Maintain buildings and equipment. Maintain breeding
area. Maintain pastures by using 4 wheelers or side by side vehicle to control noxious weeds in pastures. Grind grain to store in silo or feed structure. Build and/or maintain fencing around pastures and corrals. Building of electric fence where needed. Mow around pastures to keep clean and keep snow from drifting along fence rows. Feed and care of working cattle dogs. Ride horse to bring in cattle from pastures when needed. Run and maintain equipment involved in the feeding and feed preparation such as baler tractor and baler trailer and feeding pickups. Drive to town to pick up cattle supplies. Extensive pushing, pulling, sitting and walking. Exposure to extreme temperatures. Frequent stooping.

Special Requirements

Must be able to get a valid driver's license within 30-90 days of hire. Minimum 3 months experience. Wage rate may increase with verifiable experience. Employer may reward exceptional work with monetary or other benefits in addition to those listed here in his sole discretion. Must be able to lift a 75 pound calf.
