Packinghouse Workers

Job description

Workers will perform assigned duties as instructed by their supervisor. Duties may vary from time to time and may include all the following job specifications:

Packinghouse tasks: Workers will be required to do the following packinghouse tasks: Grading, Packing, box making, cleaning, preform sanitation procedures, stacking, operating palletizer equipment, hand jack and forklift operation, repacking, stickering.

Grading: Worker is required to stand or sit as required, while sorting out produce that doesn’t pass grade, by pulling off the line with hands and tossing produce into a directed location on line in order for produce which doesn't meet grade in to reach a discharge storage area. Workers are required to have good visional skills and hand motion.

Box making: Worker is required by using their hands to pull cardboard material off staging area and fold into a box container that will hold produce. If using a Box machine worker is required to lift cardboard material and place at designated areas of the machine to make produce boxes.

Cleaning/sanitation: Worker is required to clean machinery of produce with cleaning tools. Spray, wipe down and swipe floors.

Stacking: Worker is required to pick up produce box (weighing approximately 25lbs.) off line place onto a pallet and organize boxes to the pattern and height directed. When completed worker is required to grab an empty pallet and place to original area and repeat the procedure.

Operate palletizer: Worker is required to operate machine under the direct company of personnel on how to pull levers and wait for machine to complete procedure. Must also preformed some maintenance on machine when not in operation.

Operate pallet hand jack: Worker is required to move and position a pallet jack under pallet and move hand once in position, with upward motion and downward (up and down) lifting position to move and place pallet where directed to place full & empty pallets.

Forklift operator: Forklift driver is required to undergo a forklift training before operating a forklift. Operator will be required once certified to operate forklift to move produce, pallets, box materials, and other items as need directed by company. Also to perform maintenance and safety check on forklift.

Repacking: Workers is required to regrade produce from produce box and place produce into a different container/produce box.

The employer will provide the tools necessary to perform the described job duties without charge to the worker. The employer will charge the worker for reasonable costs related to the worker's refusal or negligent failure to return the tools, or due to such worker's willful damage or destruction of the tools.
