Job description
FARM EQUIPMENT MECHANIC: Worker will inspect, maintain, repair, and test harvesters, loaders, excavators, tractors, forklifts, tractor-drawn machinery, semi-trucks, and self-propelled machinery in preparation of field work, planting, and harvest season. Worker may check equipment fluids and change engine oil as necessary. Workers will grease and lubricate farm machinery and equipment. Worker will inspect equipment for leaks and worn hoses and advise supervisor of necessary repairs. Worker will check battery life, air filters, tire pressure, and other parts of farm equipment to ensure equipment is ready for season use. Worker will manipulate controls to set, activate and adjust mechanisms and machinery. Worker will attach farm implements such as wagons, trailers, and harvesters and irrigation equipment to tractors using bolts or hand tools. As part of maintenance task, worker will inspect, observe, and listen to machinery operation to detect malfunctions and repair as directed. Workers must maintain a safe distance from machine, not touching any moving part of a machine and never attempting to un-jam clothes, ice, or cardboard while machines are running. Workers must never stand between a moving tractor and implements or stand on hitches or ride on fenders of tractors or forklifts. Workers must never ride on the forks of a forklift while in operation. Workers must practice safety when using and testing equipment and make sure that no one is in front or behind the equipment. Safety guards must remain in place and never be removed. If a guard is damaged or missing, worker must report to supervisor and not operate the machine until guard is replaced. Workers must notify supervisors when machinery malfunctions or is not safe to operate. Workers will safely test equipment in manner that protects operator, other workers, products, crops and other equipment. Pay will be hourly.
Special Requirements
Job requires worker to complete tasks in mechanic work to maintain, repair, inspect, and test farm machinery and equipment for season preparation. Experience Requirement:3 verifiable months of commercial mechanic experience on agricultural equipment required. Applicants must furnish job references from recent employers within the last 3 years establishing acceptable prior experience.
