Job description

Bailey Company Job Duties – Description of the specific services or labor to be performed.
Prepare fields for planting - Dig trenches to drain standing water from fields. Operate 300-400 horsepower tractors and commonly used farm implements/attachments to eliminate ruts and make rows within fields.
Plant cash crops and cover crops – Operate 300-400 horsepower tractors and planters to plant corn, cotton, soybeans, and a variety of winter cover crops. Cash crops are planted from March – June. Cover crops are planted from August – November.
Treat seed – Open conventional bags, bulk bags, and bulk boxes of seed to load in seed treating machine. Operate forklift to handle bulk seed.
Mix fertilizer and other crop treatments – Mix bulk fertilizer and various crop protection ingredients in 1,600 gallon mixing vats before application. Haul finished products to application machinery with one-ton trucks and nurse trailers.
Application – Apply fertilizer and other crop protection ingredients using tractors, implements, and self-propelled sprayers.
Irrigation – Set up mobile engines (power units) to power irrigation wells. Lay out poly pipe and “hard pipe” in furrow irrigated fields to irrigate crops. Service and repair pivot irrigation systems and power units to irrigate crops. Dismantle irrigation systems and collect poly pipe and “hard pipe” before crops are harvested.
Equipment maintenance and fabrication – Preform recommended maintenance on all equipment (change oil, oil filters, fuel filters, air filters, clean radiators, and change tires on all equipment when necessary). Repair tractors, implements, self-propelled sprayers, trucks, trailers, power units, pumps, and plumbing systems. Fabricate parts for machinery and equipment using cutting torches, welders, grinders, and other shop tools. Organize parts inventory and maintain a clean and organized working environment.
Ground maintenance – Maintain roads, ditches, drainage pipes, and yards around shop premises. Keep grounds clear of trash or other debris that would prevent a safe working environment. Use lawn mowers, weed eaters, and other grass cutting equipment to maintain grass roadways and other infrastructure. Keep ditches clear of obstructions and silt using excavators, backhoes, and other instruments.
Harvest – Operate 300-400 horsepower tractors, grain carts, heavy trucks, or other equipment involved with gathering cash crops.
Logistics – Load semi-trucks to get grain from harvested fields to on-farm storage or other intermediate storage locations. Unload grain out of semi-trucks at on-farm storage. Prepare on-farm storage to hold grain (assemble and disassemble air pipes in flat storage, assemble prefabricated retaining walls, operate and maintain grain conveying systems). Load semi-trucks out of on-farm storage using grain conveying equipment and 250 horsepower wheel loader. Stage round bales of cotton on field borders. Operate 250 horsepower wheel loader to load round bales on semi-truck.

Special Requirements

Able to drive 250 hp tractor with 12-row farm implements, Work outside Some heavy lifting (30 lbs.) Must be available for the entire contract period and able to perform all job duties. Hours of work may vary due to weather conditions and job duties. Workers will only drive on farm property and will not drive trucks off farm property such as on county roads, state or intrastate highways. A drivers license is not required to drive farm trucks on farm access roads or to drive farm implements, tractors, etc. Applicants meeting all qualifications required must possess documents to complete INS Form I-9 and be available at the time and place necessary to begin employment.
