Job description
GENERAL FARM RANCH WORKERS must perform any combination of the following tasks to attend to the production of livestock: provide supplement feed and water for livestock from February to April (prior to moving livestock to the summer range); examine livestock to detect diseases and injuries; assist with the vaccination of livestock by herding into corral and/or stall or manually restraining animal on the range; applies medications to cuts and bruises; spray livestock with insecticide; assists with castration of livestock; clips identifying notches on or brands animals; manually clean stalls/corrals. Move cattle to the range to graze on natural grasslands from May to September (no feeding required). Yearlings are shipped in September and October.
The workers will be required to repair and maintain fencing . Fencing requires a great deal of hand labor and will begin as soon as the ground thaws and will continue into the fall before the freeze. Workers will be required to utilize fencing equipment and hand tools for digging and tamping post holes, stretching and nailing barbed wire, pulling weeds by hand, backfill trenches by hand and machine; and driving 4-wheeler and/or horseback. Routinely clean barns and stalls and surrounding farm area and infrastructure. Use of agricultural equipment for sileage such as tractors, crawlers,and loaders will be required and well as the general maintenance of the equipment.
Must be willing and able to occasionally live and work independently or in small groups of workers in isolated areas for extended periods of time. Most duties are performed out of doors, and entail exposure to snakes and other predators; as well as heat, cold, dust, rain, snow and other environmental conditions. Worker must be able to crouch, bend, lift and carry up to 100 pounds. Increased wages and bonuses may be possible based on experience.
