Job description
Job requires the operation of various tractors and farm equipment to till soil; work ground; prepare and maintain land; and plant, irrigate, fertilize, spray, cultivate, harvest, transport crops to elevator or storage area, and loading and unloading grain bins. Equipment that workers may be required to operate includes, but is not limited to, tractors with various implements, sprayers, combines, back-hoes, mowers, track-hoes, ATVs/side by sides, and semi-trucks. Participating in irrigation activities including laying pipe, walking length of irrigation pipe to puncture it at set intervals, setting up and operating irrigation equipment, clearing and maintaining irrigation ditches, operating well motors, operating and maintaining pivots, draining excess water from fields, and monitoring fields to check on and maintain adequate water supply to crops. Manual duties include loading seed into planters; hand harvest and planting; cleaning out left over grain from inside bins; properly mixing chemicals; loading chemicals into sprayers; changing combine cutting heads; rouging fields and using hand tools to remove undesirable plant varieties, trash, rocks, and other objects from fields; welding; performing general maintenance, repairs and/or clean-up of storage sheds, pivot points, buildings, fences, gates, barns, grain bins, and all farm equipment; ensuring operational areas are organized and well maintained; using hand tools and equipment to repair, clean and maintain farm vehicles, machinery and specialized machinery and agricultural equipment; regularly servicing equipment; mowing and landscaping on the farm; and lifting items as needed. There are few typical days and workers may be required to change duties and/or locations often and engage in various general functions. Daily duties may vary depending on crop, weather, and field conditions. Pay increase or bonus may be possible to employees depending on experience or merit and are at the sole discretion of the employer.
Special Requirements
Job requires having or being able to obtain a drivers license within 30 days of hire. Basic English literacy and math skills are required. Random drug testing and criminal background checks may occur post-hire at the employers expense. These checks may be performed to ensure a safe housing and work environment for all workers.
