Job description
Agricultural Equipment Operator: prepare soil for planting, plant, cultivate hay, wheat, barley, corn, soybeans, sunflowers, broccoli, cabbage and other diversified crops. Operate or tend equipment or machinery used in agricultural production, such as tractors, towed machines, and irrigation equipment. Operate towed machines such as seed drills and sprayers to plant, fertilize, dust and spray crops. Observe and listen to machinery operation to detect problems. Troubleshoot, repair and perform minor maintenance on farm vehicles and equipment. Workers will cultivate by hand or with mechanical cultivator attached to farm tractor. Workers will perform assigned duties as instructed by their supervisor. May supervise other workers. Though not a hiring requirement, if a worker drives a company vehicle during the period of employment then at the time of operating the company vehicle the driver must possess a valid driver?s license issued by a U.S. state or foreign equivalent and operate the company vehicle in accordance with the license restrictions and vehicle classifications applicable to that license. May feed and rotate livestock grazing in pastures. Supplemental job duties may include water and manure irrigation activities, fencing, light plumbing, spraying and weed control. Workers may cultivate by hand or with mechanical cultivator attached to farm tractor. Workers may walk along rows as specified by employer and remove weeds and grass from fields by hand or using a hoe. Prolonged walking, standing, bending, stooping, and reaching. Job is outdoors and continues in all types of weather. The use or possession or being under the influence of illegal drugs or alcohol during working time is prohibited. Workers may be requested to submit to random drug or alcohol tests at no cost to the worker. Failure to comply with the request or testing positive may result in immediate termination. All testing will occur post-hire and is not a part of the interview process. Negative result may be required post-hire and before commencing work. Must be able to lift 75 lbs. to shoulder height repetitively throughout the workday. Basic literacy and mathematical ability required. Requires minimum 3 months verifiable work experience operating up to 320 hp tractors with GPS guided equipment. Must commit to work entire contract period.
This is a very demanding and competitive business in which quality specifications must be rigorously adhered to. Sloppy work cannot and will not be tolerated.
The worker understands that if he abandons his employment or is terminated for cause prior to the end of the anticipated period of employment, the worker will forfeit the guarantee and reimbursement of certain transportation costs. Excessive absences and/or tardiness cannot be tolerated and may result in termination.
Daily individual work assignments, crew assignments, and location of work will be made by and at the sole discretion of the employer and/or worker?s supervisor. Workers may be assigned a variety of duties in any given day and/or different tasks on different days. Workers will be expected to perform any of the listed duties and work on any crop as assigned by the employer and/or worker?s supervisor.
