Job description
Performs any combination of the following tasks in order to attend to the horse livestock. Mixing feed and additives, filling feed troughs with feed and watering horses. Takes horse to pasture for grazing. Examines animals to detect diseases and injuries. Vaccinates animals by placing vaccine in drinking water or fee or using syringes and hypodermic needles. Applies medication to cutes and bruises, sprays with insecticide, and herds them into insecticide bath. Confine horses to stalls; prepares them for birthing, and/or assists in delivery of offspring. Will wash, brush, trim and/or curry to improve appearance. Will administer exercise regimens organized by veterinarians on a daily basis. Clean horse stalls and replace bedding; clean sheds or stalls using disinfectant solutions, brushes, and shovels. Grooms, clips, and trims animals for exhibition. May maintain ranch buildings and equipment. May plant, cultivate, and harvest feed grain or hay for stock. Unloads and stores feed and supplies as needed for stock.
Special Requirements
Training will be provided for 2 days and workers will be allowed 2 days to reach the production standards of the activity.
Production standards - perform the following with minimal or no supervision: perform basic horse care including brushing, bathing, clipping, following feeding and watering schedules, following supplement and medication schedules and properly administering medication; perform basic ground maintenance and repair including mucking the stall and basic operation of farm equipment such as a tractor and maintenance and cleaning of horse tack and riding equipment.
Must be able to work at times in a standing, walking and stooping position. Employees must be able to frequently lift weights ranging from 20-50 lbs.
3 months experience required working with foals, yearlings - preparation and vaccinations.
