Job description

The General Farm Ranch Hand position will be required to perform a variety of duties related to the production of cattle and hay. Duties include the following:
Fencing: Replace and repair wire fence, as well as building and repairing wooden corrals. Set up portable corrals, fences. Maintain and repair fences using pliers, fence stretchers, post pounders and bars, drills, hammers and pliers.

LIVESTOCK: check the physical characteristics of livestock, observe general condition of cattle and apply the appropriate care, apply or administer medications/vaccines, mix feed/additives, feed/water livestock (when livestock are not grazing on native grasses and drinking from natural water sources during the warm growing season); place salt and mineral blocks, drive equipment, operate an ATV or side by side; confine livestock in stalls, clean/disinfect livestock corrals, place straw; Assisting in Branding, and moving cattle to summer pasture. Must be able to hold down a calf.
Assist with calving: Identify calving cows, assist cows when difficulties arise. Must be able to use a calf puller/jack, hydraulic chutes. Observe general condition of cattle and apply the appropriate care, examine animals to detect illness/injury/disease, rate of weight gain to determine delivery time, assist in delivery of calves. Pre-condition and wean calves. Ship/haul cattle. Must be able to dive a dually truck with trailer

FARMING: Worker will be required to operate farm equipment to harvest hay. Equipment to include swather, rake, baler, loader, and backhoe.

Worker must be willing to perform tasks capably and efficiently without close supervision, and live and work singly or in small groups of workers. The job entails working with farm animals and machinery, outdoors in all types of weather (extreme heat, wind, dust, rain, snow and below zero temperatures) and occasional exposure to herding hazards such as cattle stampedes and predators. Worker will be expected to keep vehicles and equipment and housing in clean condition. Worker must crouch, bend, lift and carry items weighing up to 100 pounds. A minimum of 3 months experience is required. Drivers’ License is required.
