Job description
Job requires the operation of various tractors and farm equipment to till soil; work ground; prepare and maintain land; running drainage ditches and water furrows in fields; and plant, irrigate, fertilize, spray, cultivate, harvest, transport crops to elevator or storage area and transport water/chemicals to sprayers in the fields. Equipment that workers may be required to operate includes, but is not limited to, GPS equipment, tractors with various implements, sprayers, combines, back-hoes, mowers, track-hoes, ATVs/side by sides, grain storage and conveying equipment such as bins and augers, and semi-trucks. Employees will be participating in irrigation activities including laying pipe, walking length of irrigation pipe to puncture it at set intervals, setting up and operating irrigation equipment, clearing and maintaining irrigation ditches, operating well motors, operating and maintaining pivots, draining excess water from fields, and monitoring fields to check on and maintain adequate water supply to crops. Manual duties include but are not limited to loading seed into planters; properly mixing chemicals; loading chemicals into sprayers; changing combine cutting heads; welding; performing general maintenance, repairs and/or clean-up of storage sheds, pivot points, buildings, fences, gates, and all farm equipment; ensuring operational areas are organized and well maintained; using hand tools and equipment to repair, clean and maintain farm vehicles, machinery and specialized machinery and agricultural equipment; regularly servicing equipment; lifting items as needed; and installing and repairing fencing. There are few typical days and workers may be required to change duties and/or locations often and engage in various general functions. Daily duties may vary depending on crop, weather, and field conditions. The employer reserves the right to increase workers' pay or provide bonuses based on tenure, performance, or other factors that are solely based on the discretion of the employer.
Special Requirements
Job may require certification by way of taking a pesticide safety course before operating a sprayer. This course will be organized and paid for by the employer. Job requires being capable of lifting up to 100 lbs. Applicant must have, or be able to obtain, a driver's license. Extensive pushing and pulling may be required when repairing and performing maintenance on equipment and when working with irrigation piping. Exposure to high temperatures will be possible when working for several hours in the summer heat. Planting and harvesting seasons will may require extensive sitting in tractors. Puncturing the irrigation piping will require extensive walking and repetitive movements. Shoveling that requires frequent stooping or bending over may be required. Random criminal background checks may occur post-hire at the employers expense. These checks may be performed to ensure a safe housing and work environment for all workers.
