Job description

Maintain, drive, attach and operate farm implements/tractors/equipment to till soil, plant, cultivate, fertilize, and harvest crops; make minor mechanical adjustments and repairs on farm machinery; may mix and/or spray chemicals (according to appropriate restrictive use laws, when/if applicable); remove undesirable and excess growth from crops or farm grounds; remove rocks from field; paint/repair/maintain farm structures; perform general clean-up of farm areas; operate vehicle, motor bike or all-terrain vehicle in the course of performing duties; transport crops to market; drive, load/unload trucks such as 10 wheel and/or semi-trucks and 2 or 3 axel trucks; backup trucks in tight maneuvering conditions; climb in and out of tall trucks and various truck beds and/or trailers several times a day; work with augers, gas motors, generators and electrical cords; haul fertilizer and/or fuel from storage tanks to fields; haul compost/manure/water from/to fields or to/from market; conduct small repairs and daily maintenance on trucks; haul crops from fields to storage facilities/cellars/warehouses; drive gasoline or diesel-powered tractor-trailer combination to transport and deliver agricultural products between farms and processing/storage facilities; inspect truck/trailer(s) for defects before and after trips and submit report indicating truck condition; load/unload truck, including the use of equipment/tractors/loaders to assist in the task; assist others in loading/unloading truck; inspect loads to ensure cargo is secure; fit tarp over loaded truck; secure cargo for transport, using ropes blocks, chain, binders, or covers; maintain telephone or radio contact with supervisor to receive delivery instructions; wash/clean/maintain trucks and trailers; check vehicle to ensure that mechanical, safety, and emergency equipment is in good working order; watch gauges, dials, or other indicators to ensure truck is working properly; inspect truck equipment and supplies, such as tires, lights, brakes, gas, oil, and water and maintain/replace/replenish as needed; release ropes blocks, chains, binders, or covers to facilitate unloading of cargo. Operate, maintain and repair pivot system; lubricate, adjust, repair, and replace parts such as sprinkler heads and drive chains using hand tools; observe revolving sprinklers and adjust to ensure proper operation and uniform distribution of water; disassemble, service and store pipes/mainlines/wheel lines after irrigation season. Pushing button to start machinery; tend/ monitor machine to ensure proper movement of product; discard diseased/rotting/inferior product and foreign matter; general cleanup; sort produce according to grade, color and size; clean up around conveyors and worksite; alert equipment operator of equipment clogging/malfunctions; aid operator in correct machine performance.
