Job description

Job requires the operation of various tractors and farm equipment to till soil; work ground; prepare and maintain land; and plant, irrigate, fertilize, spray, cultivate, and harvest crops. Equipment that workers may be required to operate includes, but is not limited to, tractors with various implements, equipment that utilizes John Deere GPS and auto systems (Green Star 3000 and 6000), sprayers, combines, back-hoes, mowers, track-hoes, and ATVs/side by sides. Workers need to have knowledge of irrigation pipe planner. Irrigation activities include participating in laying pipe, walking length of irrigation pipe to puncture it at set intervals, setting up and operating irrigation equipment, clearing and maintaining irrigation ditches, operating well motors, operating and maintaining pivots, draining excess water from fields, and monitoring fields to check on and maintain adequate water supply to crops; building, constructing and maintaining levees, installing and removing levy gates and putting in spillways. Employees will also perform duties including but not limited to loading seed into planters; properly mixing chemicals; loading chemicals into sprayers; changing combine cutting heads; rouging fields and using hand tools to remove undesirable plant varieties, trash, and other objects from fields; welding; cutting torches or other similar equipment; performing general maintenance, repairs and/or clean-up of storage sheds, pivot points, buildings, fences, gates, barns and all farm equipment; ensuring operational areas are organized and well maintained; using hand tools and equipment to repair, clean and maintain farm vehicles, machinery and specialized machinery and agricultural equipment; regularly servicing equipment; mowing and landscaping around the farm; lifting as needed; maintaining pond levees, feeding fish, testing to measure the oxygen levels; and maintaining aerators. Duties also include receiving crop for drying and storage at grain storage facility; disposing of spoiled grain; transporting grain from fields to grain bins; loading and unloading grain into trucks while keeping grain level; operating augers and grain conveying equipment; monitoring grain moisture levels; preparing scale tickets; shoveling grain; and other activities that may be required in the harvesting, storage and shipping of grain or other crops. There are few typical days and workers may be required to change duties and/or locations often and engage in various general functions. Daily duties may vary depending on crop, weather, and field conditions. The employer reserves the right to increase workers' pay or provide bonuses based on tenure, performance, or other factors that are solely based on the discretion of the employer.

Special Requirements

Job requires having or being able to obtain a driver's license within 30 days of hire. Criminal background checks and drug screening may be possible post-hire at the employer's expense to ensure safety on and around the worksite as well as the safety of the public when operating machinery on public roads. Job duties will require working outdoors during the summer during which temperatures could exceed 100 degrees Fahrenheit. Job duties will also require the workers to push, pull, sit, walk, stoop, bend over, or perform repetitive movements. Basic English literacy and math skills are required.
