Job description
H-2A and corresponding domestic workers must be available to perform each of the following job activities in connection with the harvesting and farming operations:
Field Workers: Harvest/Field Labor Crops - Dry Onions, Beets, Turnips, Onion Transplants, Leek Transplants, Cabbage Transplants, and other leafy crop; Sprinkler & Irrigation Application and Implementation, General Ranch Maintenance / General Farm Labor / General Farm Cleaning, Grading, Sorting & Onion field packing; Prepare freshly harvested crop for shipment; Row Boss; CalVan Drivers; Field Safety/Food Safety activities, Housing Monitor, Sanitization activities, and Health/Wellness Monitor to perform the following duties - all activities are conducted in the field:
Harvest/ Field Labor Crops
Dry Onions: Field worker to harvest/pack onions by walking in uneven furrows. Under the direction of the field supervisors, employees determine size and quality of onions to be harvested/packed. Using a harvesting knife or harvest scissors and bending at the waist, the employee manually pulls the onions from the ground, trims the roots and leaf from onion, and places onions in buckets which are then carried to bins where the onions are dumped as instructed by the field supervisors. Onions may also be harvested into sacks similar to garlic. Two five-gallon buckets of onions go into one burlap sack. Prepare freshly harvested crop for shipment. Bins must be full to the top or sacks must weigh approximately 50lbs. Employee inspects the onions for defects. Bins weight approximately 900lbs full.
Dry Onion Grading, sorting and packing: Dry onions are dumped from the bins or sacks into the field onion grader machine conveyor belts, dry onions are sorted/graded by sizes and packed into 50lbs sacks, once sacks are filled they are tied and stacked on pallets or trailers in the field. Workers will be required to inspect onions for quality defects as they run across the field grading line, once the defect is found the worker will take the onion off the line and place it in the appropriate line. Once the bag is full they will take the two strings on top of the bag and tie them together. Once the bag is tied they will take it off the line and stack the bags in pallets. Prepare freshly harvested crop for shipment.
Beets: Field worker to harvest beets by walking in uneven furrows. Under the direction of the field supervisors, employees determine size and quality of beets to be harvested. Using a harvesting knife or harvest scissors and bending at the waist, the employee manually pulls the beets from the ground, trims the roots and leaf from beet, and places beets in buckets which are then carried to bins where the beets are dumped as instructed by the field supervisors. Employee inspects the beets for defects. Prepare freshly harvested crop for shipment. Bins weight approximately 900lbs full.
Special Requirements
1-month experience in vegetable harvest in any of the commodities listed required. Written verification of experience is required. Workers must stand, sit, crouch, bend, reach, lift and carry items weighing up to 50 pounds in the course of performing required activities. Workers must be able to listen, understand, and follow instructions of company supervisors and managers.
The company's Employment Arbitration Agreement is set forth in this Clearance Order outlining the procedures to follow in raising concerns to seek their prompt resolution with an option to arbitrate unresolved matters.
