Job description

General workers needed to perform various duties associated with the production of row crops (flue-cured tobacco, corn, wheat, soybeans, forage, rye, etc.) and beef livestock. Duties associated with row crop production may include but are not limited to greenhouse duties, cultivating, preparing rows for planting, planting, fertilizing, harvesting, spraying, irrigating, loading & unloading of tobacco bales of up to 850lbs, delivery of product to market, tractor driving, & general farm work. Job involves stooping, lifting and working outside in inclement weather & outdoor temps below 30 to in excess of 100 degrees. Must have legal authority to work in the US. Must be able to lift & carry up to 100lbs due to the nature of the work. Examples include lifting bags of feed/supplement, crop inputs, tractor weights, hay bales, etc. Workers may be required to take random, post-accident, and/or upon suspicion drug test at no cost to worker, post hire. Testing positive or failure to comply may result in immediate termination from employment.
General Conditions Applicable to All Crops: Work begins at an assigned time shortly after daylight. Work is performed under various weather conditions. Workers will use muscles to lift, push, pull, or carry heavy objects in loading and unloading trucks. All of the tasks in this job description constitute one (1) job; the employer may assign workers to different tasks on any day or to multiple tasks during the same day in the sole judgment of the employer. Workers may be required to perform work on the farm that is incidental to producing the crops such as performing hand weeding or hoeing, greenhouse/equipment/vehicle cleaning and building/repairing/painting farm structures and fencing, maintaining grounds, operate tractor/farm equipment, make minor mechanical adjustments, repair and service farm machinery, incidental crop setup when needed, and movement of irrigation systems and equipment, gardening, cleaning around ponds & fields with bush axe and/or sling blade to clear right of ways for machinery to enter work zones, general cleanup of farm areas, removal of rocks/sticks and clearing of land which is related to land preparation, etc. Cover crops of soybeans, rye, wheat, or other grains are sewn after tobacco harvest to prepare the soil for next year?s production of tobacco. This is a very demanding and competitive business in which quality specifications must be rigorously adhered to. Sloppy work cannot and will not be tolerated. Workers should expect occasional periods of little or no work due to weather, crop, or other conditions beyond the control of the employer. This can occur anytime throughout the season. As a general matter, working hours will be divided between duties related to tobacco, grains, beef livestock, and general farm work depending on the employer's needs. Given that the demands of agricultural production are unpredictable and determined by factors to include weather, crop conditions, market demands and seasonal task needs and numerous other factors, it is impossible to predict with any degree of accuracy the percentage of time that will be dedicated to any specific task.
In the event the US Department of Labor (DOL) promulgates a new AEWR during the work contract period (post certification), the employer will pay the newly established AEWR as per the Federal Register publication. If the AEWR is adjusted downward prior to certification, the employer will request a modification based on the new AEWR.

Must able to lift & carry up to 100 lbs. Workers may be required to take random, post-accident, and/or upon suspicion drug test post hire at no cost to worker. Must have legal authority to work in the US. Must have three months positive verifiable prior experience in job offered.

Did you know that... there are 2 types of H-2 visas?

Agricultural workers get H-2A visas. H-2B workers are in non-agricultural jobs like construction.
