Job description
Work will be performed aboard a shrimp fishing trawler in the Gulf of Mexico Zone EEZ depending on the amount of catch and/ or expansion of fishing grounds. Job requires worker to prepare trawlers for fishing activities; using and placing nets into water and retrieving them, sorting, and heading (removing head) from shrimp using handheld tools such as knives; place shrimp into containers and icing down shrimp to preserve the catch; mopping and cleaning work area and equipment. Employer will pay prevailing wage or a % of the total catch profits (usually 30% split between crew of 3 to 4 maximum), 30% of total catch split between 3-4 max will be equal to, or higher that the prevailing wage.
Special Requirements
Worker must have sea legs and be able to work aboard a fishing trawler in slightly turbulent waters for periods longer than a couple of weeks to up to several months. Must have knowledge of basic safety aboard a fishing trawler.
Monday through Saturday, schedules vary and are day to early evening shifts between the hours of 7:00 AM to 6:00 PM with 1 -hour break in between 8-hour shift. Trips out to fish may be several weeks to several months depending on the catch
