Job description

Workers will perform any combination of the following tasks: Feeds, grazes and waters livestock, including cattle or horses as needed; herds livestock to pasture for grazing; examines animals to detect diseases and injuries; make herd health evaluations as needed; assists with the vaccination of livestock by herding into corral and/or stall; manually restraining animal on the range; applies and administers medications to cuts and bruises; sprays livestock with insecticide; assists with castration; clips ID notches on or brands animals. Perform animal husbandry tasks (birth calves, euthanize downed animals, cosmetic dehorning, group cattle according to age & expected calving dates). Must be able to break and train horses; ride and handle horses in a manner to assure the safety of the worker, co-worker, and livestock while herding, calving, breeding, castrating, branding, tagging, vaccinating and feeding cattle. Horse care includes stall cleaning, feeding, shoeing, training and foaling. Must be able to herd cattle as scheduled; find and maintain bearings to grazing areas; inspect for noxious plants, predatory animals, and weather protection for herd. Must be able to cut and clear brush on property and fence rows with hand tools and machinery; build and repair fences; install and repair water lines. Must be willing and able to work on horseback and/or on foot; occasionally live and work independently or in small groups of workers in isolated areas for extended periods of time. As needed, duties include supplemental feeding of livestock with tractor or pickup, loading and unloading feed and hay, and maintenance of wildlife feeders. Must have basic working ability with ranch implements and able to perform tasks capably and efficiently without supervision. Duties include heavy workloads while feeding, calving, breeding, foaling and working cattle in drought and other adverse weather conditions. Duties may include operating propane cactus burner for feeding cattle during drought conditions. Lifting requirements are at least 50 pounds or more. Employee will work outdoors with exposure to hazards such as poisonous snakes, predators and extreme temperatures. Required to be available 24 hours per day, 7 days a week and spend the majority of workdays outdoors and on the range. Experience as range worker May be required to take post hire random drug and/or alcohol tests, at no cost to the worker. Testing positive or failure to comply may result in immediate termination. May be required to submit a post hire employer paid criminal background check. Failure to comply or felony convictions that the employer reasonably believes will impair safety of others on the worksite will result in immediate termination.
