Job description

Plant, transplant, cultivate, harvest, grade and pack blueberries, blackberries and squash by hand or machine.
Pre-harvest activities for berries may include staking, tying, planting, transplanting and pruning. Remove weeds from around the plants and from the row middles. Walk through assigned row while bending and reaching to pick ripe fruit by hand without bruising or damaging the fruit or bush. Pick fully ripe fruit; discard any deformed, decayed or undersized berries according to supervisor's instructions. Carefully remove any undesirable fruit from plant that would later cause fungi to attack the plant. Grade and pack product according to supervisor's instructions in the field or packing house. Grade products by size, weight, color, or condition. Discard inferior or defective products or foreign matter. Place acceptable products in specified containers. Assemble cartons, crates, and containers using hand tools. Stack boxes onto pallets, transport vehicles, or trailers. Count, load, and unload products and/or materials. Clean and maintain containers, materials, supplies, and work areas. Clean around farm and buildings including pulling weeds and raking. Prune and thin bushes according to supervisor's instructions. Participate in irrigation activities. Install, set up, and operate irrigation equipment. Lay irrigation pipes, dig ditches, and pull plastic. Operate, repair, clean and maintain farm equipment and vehicles. Workers who apply for and obtain an FLC or FLC employee certificate of registration with driving authorized by the USDOL Wage and Hour Division during the employment period may transport workers and be offered additional work hours. Assist with Good Agricultural Practices policies. Allergies to ragweed, goldenrod, honey bees, insecticides, herbicides, fungicides, or related chemicals may affect a worker's ability to perform the job. Persons seeking employment in this position must be available for the entire period requested by the employer. Employer reserves the right to discharge an obviously unqualified worker, malingerer or recalcitrant worker who is physically able but is unwilling to perform the work necessary for the employer to grow a premium quality product, or for any other lawful reason.

Employer may request, but not require, workers to work more than the stated daily hours and/or on a worker's Sabbath or federal holidays. Workers will have an unpaid lunch break. Worker must report to work at designated time and place each day. Daily or weekly work schedule may vary due to weather, sunlight, temperature, crop conditions, and other factors. Employer will notify workers of any change to start time.

There will be 2 shifts ocurring for the entire contract. The first shift will begin at 7:00am and end at 3:00pm. The second shift will begin at 8:00am and end at 4:00pm.
TERMINATION. All workers will be subject to a 2 day introductory period, during which the employer will evaluate workers' performance of required tasks. Employer reserves the right to terminate a worker at the conclusion of the 2 day introductory period if the worker's performance fails to satisfy the employer's reasonable expectations, or is otherwise unacceptable. Employer may terminate a worker for lawful job-related reasons, including but not limited to situations in which the worker: (1) Is repeatedly absent or tardy; (2) malingers or otherwise refuses, without cause, to perform the work as directed; (3) commits act(s) of misconduct or repeatedly violates the Work Rules; and/or (4) fails, after completing the 2 day introductory period, to perform work in a competent and skillful manner, consistent with the employer's reasonable expectations. Non-U.S. workers may be displaced as a result of one or more U.S. workers becoming available for the job during the employer's recruitment period.

Special Requirements

Two months verifiable farm work experience required. Work in extremely hot, cold and/or wet conditions. Walk, bend, sit, reach, stoop, stand, push/pull, perform repetitive movements, and lift and carry 50 pounds. Drug testing is conducted post-hire at the employer's expense and is not part of the interview process.
