Job description

I. GENERAL SUMMARY:
The mechanic I will report to the Maintenance Crew Leader or Maintenance Manager and will be responsible for repairing farm equipment as well as other farming implements. This position will include tasks ranging from assisting with repairs on an engine’s electrical system to welding cracked pipefitting. The Mechanic I will ensure equipment is a good repair and functioning at its full potential through preventative maintenance and/or any required repairs.
II. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
• Inspect, maintains and services farm equipment, machinery and implements.
• Will ensure a full inspection of the defective equipment, and/or machinery has been conducted, will assist in troubleshoot and with repairs including engine, transmission, electrical, hydraulic, steering, suspension, braking, air conditioning, etc. to specification.
• Identifies parts needed for replacement and will collaborate with the parts department to ensure parts are available for repairs and keep a low inventory.
• Effectively performs scheduled inspections and preventive maintenance activities to all farm equipment, machinery and implements, such as oil change, filter change and some minor adjustments.
• Dissembles and assembles equipment with guidance.
• Maintains a clean and safe work environment and adheres to all DFF safety policies, procedures, and instructions from managements.
• Collaborates with team members from other departments to ensure repairs are done in a timely manner.
• Performs welding or fabrication duties as needed.
• Performs other duties as assigned/required.
• Elaborate work order reports in a daily basis.
• Lubricates all grease fitting on equipment and implement.

III. PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORK ENVIRONMENT

While performing the duties of this job, the associate is regularly required to talk or hear. The associate frequently is required to stand, walk and sit. The associate is frequently required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls and reach with hands and arms. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

Crew Driver: Workers may transport seasonal workers to and from their assigned worksite location daily.

GENERAL CONDITIONS APPLICABLE TO ALL CROPS: Field work begins at assigned time, which can vary from either before daylight or shortly after daylight, to afternoon start times. Work environment will be dirty, dusty and damp, with temperature fluctuations according to the season. Work is performed during light rain and in high humidity and in temperatures ranging from 100+ degrees to below 35 degrees F. Workers must have multi-limb coordination ability while standing, walking and climbing for long periods while pruning and harvesting. Workers will work on their feet in bent position for long periods of time. Workers will supply their own work clothes. Workers must be able to lift up to 35 lbs. consistently throughout the day. Workers will make repetitive movements, extensive pushing, pulling, and walking. This is a very demanding and competitive business in which quality specifications must be rigorously adhered to. Sloppy work cannot and will not be tolerated.

Special Requirements

All workers should have at least 2 months experience operating 50+ HP Farm equipment. Workers must have a valid drivers license or be able to obtain one within 30 days of hire. Applicants must be able to furnish affirmative job references from recent employers operating comparable operations establishing acceptable previous experience. Must be physically able to meet and perform all job specifications stated in job order. Must be able to work in the hot humid weather for extended periods of time. Workers may be subject to random drug testing post hire at no cost to the employee post hire. Failing or refusing a drug test will result in immediate termination.
