Job description

Essential Duties for the Class A Potato Truck Driver include, but are not limited to the following:
1. Follow supervisor instructions always and arrive to work on time.
2. Conduct thorough and accurate pre-trip inspections on field trucks, semi-trucks & trailers.
3. Safe and correct operation of trucks. Perform duties in accordance with established safety standards and proper vehicle operation techniques.
4. Safe and correct hook-up of trailers.
5. Safely and correctly load/unload trailer with potato seed and tie down load as needed.
6. Correctly distribute potato seed in trailer to comply with state and federal regulations.
7. Follow delivery instructions to and from the growing location & accurately complete logs & other necessary forms.
8. Deliver & pickup other farm related materials when necessary to field locations.
9. Maintain and care for tarps, ropes, and all other driver/truck equipment.
10. Communicate with dispatcher, planter supervisors, field supervisors, & other co-workers, and field & farm receiving in a courteous, professional manner.
11. Participate in safety trainings, orientations and all other company meetings as required.
12. Report all injuries to supervisor immediately regardless of how slight they might seem.
13. When not operating the truck & trailer, employees will be required to participate on the maintenance of the trucks/trailers.
If driving duties are not available, workers will perform these duties on the farm or in the fields:
1. Use hand tools, including but not limited to: shovels, hoes, potato forks and knives.
2. Unloading, grading, sizing, cutting, applying seed treatment to potato seed.
3. Operating a forklift
4. Perform general farm duties as necessary.
All tools will be provided at no cost.

Special Requirements

Drivers must maintain a United States Class A CDL or a drivers license reciprocally recognized by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Act (FMCSA) as having the same qualifications as a US Class A CDL. Drivers will be subject to FMCSA rules pertaining to Qualification of Drivers, to include drug testing prior to assuming driving duties and inclusion in a DOT random drug testing program. A driver file for each driver will be built and maintained pursuant to 49 CR 391 Subpart F. Drug testing will be conducted at a testing facility in close proximity to the work site paid for by the employer. Drivers can be hired prior to drug testing, but will need to complete drug testing, a motor vehicle check, provide certificates of violations, provide copy of current health certificate, provide proof of driver training, and provide acknowledgement of drug and alcohol policy prior to starting driving responsibilities.
