Job description

All applicants must be able, willing and qualified to perform the work described in this job description and must be available for the entire period of employment specified in box 3 & 4, page 1. Applicants must be qualified to perform normal orchard work, including but not limited to pruning and training apple trees and harvesting apples. The worker must also be able to perform field and maintenance work like weeding, picking stones, preparing soil for planting, repairing broken bins, picking up brush from the orchard floor, and general care of the orchards, orchard buildings and dooryard. During harvest, the worker may be asked to drive tractor or truck to remove apple bins from the orchard, or to accomplish other harvest-related tasks. The worker must be willing to work in varied weather conditions as low as 30 degrees and as high as 90 degrees, often in dry or damp conditions. The worker must be able to handle and climb a 14 foot ladder repetitively while carrying an apple picking bucket, which is harnessed over the worker's shoulders. When harvesting apples, the workers productivity must be at least the equivalent of 60 1-1/18 bushel boxes of normal market apple varieties per 7 hours worked with no more than 5% bruising for fresh market. The worker may also be required to press apples into cider and pack apples in a packing house. This job order requires long periods of standing, bending, and kneeling. The worker must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds frequently and be available to work Monday through Saturday. The employer will furnish workers all tools and equipment required to perform the duties assigned without cost. The worker will be given a 30 minute lunch break. Beginning and ending times of work will vary depending on the conditions in the orchard. The worker must be able to take directions in simple English.
