Job description
In connection with seasonal breeding and culling of non-productive animals, the farmworkers will operate a company-owned commercial motor vehicle while abiding by all applicable regulations; Follow transport quality assurance and company guidelines for proper animal handling and biosecurity adherence during trailer preparation, loading and unloading of livestock; Communicate with relevant personnel regarding ETAs, issues with loading, or other events affecting deliveries; Workers will clean, sanitize, and disinfect tractors, vehicles, and trailers; installing, maintaining and monitoring trailer panels and plugs as well and proper amount of clean bedding; properly enter and exit the vehicle cabs multiple times per day; Comply with safety procedures and utilize personal protection equipment when required; Follow U.S. Department of Transportation Federal Motor Carrier safety Regulations, including, but not limited to FMCSR regulation §396.11 as to record-keeping, rest breaks, and other requirements; Perform occasional squatting, kneeling, bending, climbing and ability to walk up an incline during loading and unloading of trailer; and handle equipment such as panels, paddles or shakers to move animals. Workers may be subject to irregular work schedules due to government limitations on driving hours and other safety consideration. As this work involves the transporting of live farm animals, the work will naturally include hog pickup and hog drop-off locations in an expanded geographic area (i.e., places of employment beyond the area of intended employment after the workday begins 1413 Franklin, Iowa 52654). Workers will be able to reasonably return to their residence within the same workday as listed by addresses in Addendum B.
Special Requirements
Must be able to tolerate blood, animal dander, manure, dust, odors, and frequently noisy conditions. 3 months of experience working with livestock. Workers must be able to follow detailed biosecurity protocol. Workers must be able to lift and carry 75 pounds for 75 yards. CDL Class A Drivers License (or its foreign equivalent) and a clean driving record is required. 2 weeks of training provided.
